Morning Music Notes – We Don’t Want You, ‘Awesome Non-Canadian Band’

Some new legislation quietly came into effect July 31 that will affect international bands coming to Canada. Yes, that means you One Direction. Canada’s Ministry of Employment, Social Development & Multiculturalism have hiked fees for international bands who wish to enter Canada and play. This could mean application fees to get into the country could double or even quadruple. (via Calgary Herald)

Sad news in the music industry, especially for fans of post-rock music. Chris Friedrich, the bassist for Caspian (a band I once saw at Rancho Relaxo in Toronto) has unexpectedly passed away. A planned benefit show the band was playing on August 31 will double as a tribute show to the bassist. (via Exclaim)

Stone Temple Pilots have moved from the live phase of their new relationship with Linkin Park’s Chad Bennington and have taken it all the way – to the studio. The Scott Weiland-less band have announced a new EP with Chad singing on the 5 tracks. High Rise EP is out October 8. As a saving grace to Weiland, the band are actually called Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington (via Exclaim)
