Morning Music Notes – Guitars and Whiskey, What More Do You Want?
Hello Christmas List: Justin Vernon Designs Guitar Made from Whiskey Barrel
We’ve featured some cool guitars on this site, from Super Mario ones, to the Millennium Falcon, and more. The latest in the line of cool guitars comes courtesy of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Bushmills Irish Whiskey barrels (via Pitchfork).
The guitar is called the 1608 because the numbers sound cool. The guitar is up for sale right now, with proceeds going to Eau Claire, Wisconsin’s Confluence Project. The current eBay bid is over $5,000, but I just picked a high number with my fake eBay account.
Vernon spoke about the project for his town I’ve never heard of, noting “The goal is to put art back on the map in Eau Claire. Far too many artists from this area have had to leave because what we want to do with our lives just isn’t possible here. That’s what the Confluence Project is: to build a center that can be a nucleus for art here in Eau Claire.”
What’s that you say – you want to see a video on how the guitar was made? Well, tough shit you’re in luck. Check it out below.
Mick Jagger to Produce James Brown Movie
From one old man to another (well, before he died) – Mick Jagger is to produce a biopic on the late James Brown (via NME). Jagger is teaming up with Brian Grazer, who was working on plans for a movie with Brown before his passing in 2006. The movie will show Brown’s life from young boy in poverty to the so-called Godfather of Soul. Yup, that’s what a biopic does.
Speaking about the project, Jagger said to Deadline, “It’s a great honour to be involved with a project as rich as the story of the legendary James Brown. He was a mesmerising performer with a fascinating life.”
Note the generic comment above could’ve been about anyone. The movie doesn’t have a title, but it should be called Sex Machine in order to attract an interesting audience.
New Footage of Old Footage
John Williams has composed pretty much all of your favourite movie soundtracks. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman, Jurassic Park, and E.T., to name a few. Some new footage has been found that shows a young Steven Spielberg and John Williams working on the hook for E.T. It’s interesting how close together Williams and Spielberg worked, and how Williams asked so many questions, which could also be taken for a lack of confidence given the setting. Check out the footage from the 30th anniversary edition of the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial DVD and watch the men work their magic (via Twenty Four Bit).
Watch! Diamond Rings – Runaway Love
I always find it interesting when solo acts pick stage names for themselves. I’m fascinated by weird things. Anyway, Toronto’s Diamond Rings is actually John O’Regan. For his latest video, Runaway Love, from new album Free Dimensional, you might think runaway love is referring to cars and bikes. Check out the tune below.
