Morning Music Notes – Coldplay Continue Their Streak of Awkwardly Named Albums – Mylo Xyloto Out Oct. 25

Lovable rockers Coldplay announced today that their fifth album, Mylo Xyloto (pronounced my-lo zy-letoe), will be released in North American on Oct. 25 (via Billboard).

“Mylo Xyloto will be released in digital, CD and vinyl formats. The 180-gram vinyl edition will include a 12″ x 36″ poster. A special limited edition Pop-Up Album version will also be available, which will include a 12″ x 12” hardback book containing graffiti pop-up art designed by David A. Carter, vinyl, CD and exclusive content including photographs, excerpts from the studio diary and the band’s personal notebooks. Half of the CDs will be packaged with the full color artwork as the cover while the other 50% will have the CD booklet flipped, showing the silver initials “M X” via a die-cut sheet placed over the color image.”

Did you say Coldplay diary?! “Dear diary. I still can’t believe I am married to Gwyenth Paltrow. Time to write a song about the complications of love, which do not reflect my live married to a Hollywood star. If we have a third baby, I am thinking of the name Mylo. Perhaps Mylo Xyloyo. If no baby, then that’s a definite obvious choice for a winner of an album name”

Noel Gallagher Talks Radiohead and Mumford & Sons; Liam Gallagher Store Smasher Brought to Justice

A double dose of news for the brothers Gallagher. First, let’s talk Noel, who is releasing his first solo album a mere week before Coldplay’s disc will rule the charts. Rolling Stone chatted to Noel Gallagher and asked him about Radiohead and Mumford & Sons, and PHM has the conversation below.

What do you think about Radiohead?
They’re an odd bunch, aren’t they? They’ve been making the same record since Kid A. But this needs to be said. I don’t own any of their records, but every time I’ve seen them live, they’ve fucking blown me away. It was like, “Wow, fucking listen to that! How do you fucking make that shit come out of those speakers?” It’s fucking amazing. But have I ever had a moment where I fucking sat down and thought, “Do you know what this calls for? This calls for ‘Paranoid Android!’ Get it on!” No. I’ve never had that moment. Give me “Mony Mony” or “Runaround Sue.” Something you can sing to.

How about Mumford & Sons?
What’s the first big song they had? I love that. [Hums “The Cave.”] I don’t know what the fuck it’s called. I haven’t heard anything that sounds as good as that. I don’t mind them. A lot of fucking people hate them in England. I think it’s the waistcoat and facial hair. I don’t mind them. I think that guy’s got a good voice . . . I wish had written that song. That’s the biggest compliment I can pay whoever wrote that.

Now, Liam’s turn. Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green clothing store in Manchester was looted during those ‘London’ riots the other day. They’ve arrested the chap that did the looting (via NME). According to BBC News, Owen Flanagan, who is 28 years old and from Levenshulme, just outside Manchester, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary. Flanagan admitted he stole clothing which was worth £175 from the former Oasis man’s store as well as two electrical items. Now I’ve looked at the prices of Pretty Green clothing, so judging by the value of the goods he stole, he got one, maybe two pairs of fucking Pretty Green socks.

Michael Jackson Tribute Concert – Lineup Revealed
What better way to celebrate the life of Michael Jackson then to have a tribute concert….in Cardiff, Wales….with a bizarrely weak lineup. So far, the following acts have been revealed: Craig David, Alien Ant Farm and 90s pop act 3T. Organizers have promised that this is just the beginning – I should bloody hope so! Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and JLS have also agreed to appear at the Millennium Stadium, as has Leona Lewis (via Guardian).

“Several of Michael’s relatives – along with the official Michael Jackson Fan Club, and even the singer’s executors – aren’t backing the show. They claim the concert will distract from the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr Conrad Murray, Jackson’s former doctor. “While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honours our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the [trial],” Randy and Jermaine said. “Everyone’s care and attention should be focused on the matter of justice.”

But wait – Alien Ant Farm are playing!

The Throne’s video for Otis – Done by Spike Jonze

As released on iTunes this past week, The Throne aka Jay-Z and Kanye West, have released their debut album, Watch the Throne. They have let a few songs slip out to the world wide web, including H.A.M. and Otis. Now they have their first official video, for the song Otis, which samples Otis Redding’s 1966 version of Try A Little Tenderness. The video was done by famed music video director Spike Jonze, who most recently did the latest Beastie Boys video, complete with action figures. No action figures this time around, just the boys…driving around in a car….and a giant American flag. I could’ve directed this video! Great tune, though.

unfortunately, 50% of radiohead songs this century aren’t singalongs, due to computerized effects and thom’s crazy awesome falsetto.

as for the Otis sample, it’s incredible…but wears on me by the end of the song.
