Morning Music Notes – The Neverending Jubilee
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert Tonight
Queen Elizabeth II just celebrated 60 years of being the Queen with a massive 1000 boat flotilla, the biggest event on the Thames in 350 years, the last being her birthday parade 350 years ago. Yes, she is a robot. Tonight, there will be a massive concert outside of Buckingham Palace featuring performances by Paul McCartney, Elton John, Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Annie Lennox, Cliff Richard, and other artists that you likely don’t care about. Everything kicks off around 7:30pm local time, so brush up on your time zone knowledge to figure out when it starts in your area.
Gary Barlow’s Diamond Jubilee Song Hits Number One
Did anyone hear that terrible Diamond Jubilee song, Sing, that Take That singer/dancer Gary Barlow put together? I do feel a bit bad after watching a television special on the making of the song last night, showing Gary travelling the world to villages and meeting some of the musicians in less fortunate circumstances than us who are reading and writing this on computers/phones. That being said, you can’t let your emotions take over your brain, and an average song is just that. Well, monarchy and Take That lovers helped propel the single to number 1 on the UK charts (via NME), continuing to prove that you don’t need talent to be rich and famous.
Wu-Tang Clan Members to Star As Wu-Tang Clan Members
We already know that Michael K. Williams (Omar Little from the Wire) is playing Ol’ Dirty Bastard in the new ODB biopic, Dirty White Boy. Williams told the New York Daily News that the movie producers “have no desire to cast any actors as the Wu-Tang. We need all hands on deck.” This should be fun! Brush up on your Wu-Tang member names, like Happy, Sleepy, and Dopey, and expect to see them with their hands on deck shortly.
Yes, I Am Going to Write About Justin Bieber
As a Canadian, I dislike how our biggest exports are often our worst – Nickelback, Celine Dion, and Justin Bieber to name a few. I am amazed at how popular Justin Bieber is, and it doesn’t appear to be waning. Proof? Thieves stole the Bieber posters off my walls! Justin Bieber has sold out the legendary Madison Square Gardens in New York City in 30 seconds (not the only thing he does in 30 seconds – ladies). His entire 45 city North American tour sold out in just one hour (via Hollywood Reporter). Yes, I am impressed. Although the guys who did this are perhaps more impressive.
US Readers – Watch! The Black Keys featuring Johnny Depp – Gold on the Ceiling (at MTV Movie Awards)
The MTV Movie Awards were last night, and with prestigious awards like Best Fight, Best Kiss, and Best On-Screen Dirtbag, you know Hollywood’s best would be in attendance. One highlight was Johnny Depp showing his desire to jump ship from acting to music playing yet again, this time joining the Black Keys for a couple of songs. MTV likes to restrict their videos based on regions, so the 2 videos below can only be viewed in the United States. Sorry “rest of the world!”
