Hurry Up And Learn/Copy: Wikipedia to Blank Out Its English Pages on Wednesday
Wikipedia, one of the top sources of fraudulent information, will be blacking out its English-based articles in protest of the Protect IP Act (via Digital Trends). This Wednesday, January 18 will be the day you will not be able to learn all about your favourite celebrities or topics, as Wikipedia goes dark for English users. This is in protest of the Protect IP Act, which goes before US Senate on January 24. Wikipedia isn’t going this alone – also participating will be Reddit.com, BoingBoing.net, IHeartChaos.com, and the entire Cheezburger Network. Where will we get our LolCats fix now?!
In a nutshell, what the bill would do is empower Internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to foreign websites that have been accused to distributing copyrighted material illegally. The other hotly contest bill, which has been delayed, is the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). Let the online wars begin!
