Morning Music Notes – NO Way to Google Our Band Name
In the summer of 2012, we featured a band from Echo Park in Los Angeles. They are called NO, which is damn near impossible to Google. The band have signed to Toronto label Arts & Crafts and are dropping their debut album, El Prado, on February 18.
The band have a track that is a mix of the Lumineers chanting and vocal harmonies with the sound of the National. These are both good things. The track is the rock track Leave the Door Wide Open, which is advice you shouldn’t heed if the door in question is the bathroom. Check it out below.

Gwil “Yes, this is my real name” Sainsbury is now the former bassist for Mercury Prize winners Alt-J. The band tweeted that his departure was a ‘personal decision’, which means he forgot to bring biscuits to one too many band practices. (via Billboard)
Saturday night, the surprising division leaders Toronto Raptors hosted the Brooklyn Nets at home. It was a hip hop battle, as the Raptors are linked to Drake, while the Nets are linked to Jay Z. Meanwhile, Saturday night at the Air Canada Centre was known as Drake Night. Fans were given a t-shirt with the OVO owl in the famous black and gold colours. Drake also announced the line up, but didn’t perform at all. The Raptors won, and are playoff bound (right?). (via Consequence of Sound)
The project formerly known as Daisy and now know as Beats Music will launch on January 21. The Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine (Interscope co-fuounder), and Trent Reznor music streaming service will set you back $10 for the subscription service, or $15 for a family plan with five members. Will it flop? (via Consequence of Sound)
U2 (remember them?) played a surprise show on Saturday night, their first show in almost 3 years. The surprise gig was part of Sean Penn’s third annual Help Haiti benefit (via Consequence of Sound). The band then went on Sunday night and won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for their Ordinary Love track from the Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom movie. They paid tribute to the recently deceased South African leader. A very charitable weekend for the Irish rockers. (via Gigwise)
The world’s biggest brat, Justin Bieber, has been named as a suspect in a misdemeanor vandalism. What was this alleged act? Throwing eggs at his neighbours. Does anyone like Bieber these days? (via Billboard)
