Morning Music Notes – Make Up Edition
Sorry for missing Morning Music Notes yesterday (has only happened maybe twice in two years) – the excellent London trio Daughter gave us tickets to their show after our interview with them, and I wasn’t expecting to or prepared to do a concert review, so that threw a monkey wrench into my plans of sleep. But we’re back, and definitely not better than ever.
Of Course He Was – Snoop Dogg was an Actual Pimp on Tour
Snoop Dogg definitely has an interesting past. The latest revelation from the life of the newly reincarnated Snoop Lion is that he acted as a pimp during his tours (via Gigwise). Snoop tells Rolling Stone, “I did a Playboy tour, and I had a bus follow me with ten bitches on it. I could fire a bitch, fuck a bitch, get a new ho: It was my program. City to city, titty to titty, hotel room to hotel room, athlete to athlete, entertainer to entertainer. If I’m in a city where where the Denver Broncos or the Nuggets play, I get a couple of they players to come hang out, pick and choose, and whichever one you like comes with a number. A lot of athletes bought pussy from me.”
Surprisingly, his wife was okay with this. I guess you need to let a few things slide when you’re married to Snoop Dogg. “No smoking in the house, honey!”
Of Course They Are – Jack White’s Third Man Records Are Releasing The Great Gatsby Soundtrack on Gold and Platinum Vinyls
Jack White never does anything easy. Whether it is a release by balloons or other creative methods, the man doesn’t like his Third Man Records to keep vinyl simple. The deluxe edition of the Great Gatsby soundtrack will have vinyl that has “blindingly reflective metalized discs” and will be bound in gatefold artwork (via NME).
The vinyl will set you about about $250, and you can check out a video about it below. The soundtrack has a new song from The xx, an Amy Winehouse cover by Andre 3000 and Beyonce, a new track from Jay-Z, and a U2 cover of Love is Blindness by Jack White himself.
That’s Where Ja Rule Has Been – Jail!
Not that I was ever really a Ja Rule fan (sorry if you found this when Googling yourself, Ja Rule), but I did sort of wonder where he disappeared to. It turns out – and you may already know this – that he was in jail. Ja Rule was just released on Tuesday after serving two years behind bars for gun and tax evasion charges (via Yahoo). It looks like Lauryn Hill and Ja Rule have the same tax accountant. Now you can sleep at night, knowing where Ja Rule is. Celebrity reality shows await you.
Listen! The Orwells – Other Voices
Another Dave Sitek-produced track has made it onto PHM, after those Beady Eye tracks and the new one from CSS. We have some straight forward, Cribs-esque indie rock from Chicago teenagers, The Orwells. They have a new EP called Other Voices, and below is the title track for you to check out.
