Geographically-Correct Roadtrip Playlists
SHOTGUN! Someone yelling that word is usually the first thing you hear when you start a roadtrip. The second thing you hear is the engine start, and the third is the tunes coming out of the vehicle’s speakers. Music is important on roadtrips, it helps pass the time as you all enthusiastically sing along sit quietly and enjoy it. That music becomes the soundtrack of your experience. Most people like a variety of music, and some just want to rock the first Kasabian album over and over (sorry Pete, I really liked it).
Now there is a way to make sure that wherever your journey takes you, you can listen to music by artists from that local area (via gizmodo.com). Roadtrip Mixtape is a new ‘app’ that does this and it sounds like a great way to discover music you haven’t heard before. I personally have bought as many apps for a phone as I have acres of land on the moon, so maybe I’m not the most qualified writer for this subject, but it sounds pretty straight forward. You tell the app where you are, where you’re going, and it does the rest. New improvements and features are on the way. No word yet if there is a “stereotype” setting, where you can listen to: bluegrass in Kentucky, country in Tennessee, jazz in New Orleans, the blues in the Mississippi delta, or Jimmy Buffett in the Florida Keys.
