RBC Royal Bank Bluesfest Day 1 Tee-Up

So, we’re kindof cranked to be covering one of our favourite festivals on the calendar – Ottawa’s Bluesfest.

As is the case every year, Bluesfest’s greatest strength is variety. 12 days of music ranging from Norah Jones to Skrillex; Mustard Pimp to Mastadon; Fishbone to Blue Rodeo. As always – we’re likely going to miss some bands we should see, and we’re going to go see some bands we should have missed… such is life. However, here’s who we will NOT miss on day 1:

• The Melvins: Alot of bands were given the moniker ‘grunge’, but nobody deserves it better than The Melvins. The heaviest rock band on the planet? The debate rages on tomorrow evening.

• Fishbone: Fishbone has been a ska band, a hard funk band, a metal band, and a pop band. I’ve loved them all. Also – the most under-rated front men of all time? Go see Angelo Moore and discover that for yourself.
  
• Tiesto: He’s the DJ that every other newer, cooler DJ wants to get their picture taken with; a pretty compelling reason to want to see this guy play.
