Morning Music Notes – Trent Reznor: Father, Husband, Soundtrack Specialist for Hire
Trent Reznor is Making More Albums and Babies
After Nine Inch Nails went on hiatus, Lover Trent Reznor took over the Dark Trent Reznor. This led to marriage to Mariqueen Maandig, and well as a baby. He also started a new band with his wife – how cliche! They formed How To Destroy Angels, and they released a 6-track EP. They have now just finished a full length album, which is expected to be out next spring (via Rolling Stone).
“Regardless of How to Destroy Angels’ next step, Reznor is pleased with the band’s experimentation. “Really, why I stopped Nine Inch Nails as a live entity was because it started to feel like I’ve done it, I’ve done it, and I’ve done it again. [I] started to feel like I needed reinvention and I needed to force myself into that,” he explains. “How to Destroy Angels has been an interesting creative outlet. I think when people hear what we’ve been up to, it will be very validating on my part.”
Trent is on a hot streak, getting nominated for Father of the Year a Golden Globe for his work on the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack with Atticus Finch. They won the award last year for The Social Network.
Steve Jobs is the Most Fascinating Person of the Year
Steve Jobs is a fascinating person to some, but to Barbara Walters, he is the most Fascinating Person of the Year (trademark?). Jobs has made history by being the first deceased person to make the list (via iPhone in Canada).
“The choice of Steve Jobs as Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating Person of the Year was an unusual one; the program has never featured a person who is not alive. In fact, the Apple founder was selected much earlier in the year, when he first retired. After Jobs died, the rule was broken for him. After all, he broke so many rules during his extraordinary life. A businessman and a visionary, a marketing genius and a romantic, a billionaire and a Zen Buddhist, Jobs was one of a kind. His energy and vision changed the world and made him the choice for Most Fascinating Person of the Year.”
Watch a video of it below, and thank someone that the Kardashians didn’t win.
And Speaking Of Steve Jobs – iTunes Match Goes LIVE!
iTunes Match is now live in the UK and in Canada (via Slash Gear). iTunes Match allows you to match up your songs from your iTunes library to your iCloud account. The songs will be matched and you will be provided with a high quality version of the song into your iCloud account. If there is no match, you will have to manually upload the tracks. This service is priced at £21.99 in the UK and CA$27.99 in Canada, per year.
The advantage to iTunes Match to something like Google Music is that it takes days and days to upload all of your songs to Google Music, where iTunes Match scans your library and then matches (get it?!) the songs it finds with the 20 million available in iTunes.
The Cults Appear on Yo Gabba Gabba!
Yo Gabba Gabba! is a children’s television show. You learn something new everyday. Apparently it’s quite popular, features a monster or whatever they are that looks like the London Olympic mascot, and has celebrity guests. Indie rockers the Cults decided to drop by and sing about the pleasures of hot chocolate – I kid you not. Yo Gabba Gabba!’s A Very Awesome Christmas will be shown on December 18th.
