Morning Music Notes – Lions Fans Say What Everyone Has Been Thinking
Nickelback Chosen For Detroit Lions Halftime Show, Fans are PISSED
Poor Nickelback. They play to sellout arenas and sell thousands of albums, they are millionaires, yet paradoxically, no one seems to like them. In Canada, my theory is that only people who like the CFL like Nickelback. Yet everywhere they go, they play to excited crowds. Everywhere, but a Detroit Lions halftime show (via Rolling Stone). Nickelback has been selected as the halftime act for the annual Thanksgiving Day football matchup. However, one fan has started an online petition:
“This game is nationally televised, do we really want the rest of the US to associate Detroit with Nickelback? Detroit is home to so many great musicians and they chose Nickelback?!?!?! Does anyone even like Nickelback? Is this some sort of ploy to get people to leave their seats during halftime to spend money on alcoholic beverages and concessions? This is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. At least the people watching at home can mute their TVs. The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime.”
Amazing stuff. Now if people could start these petitions in EVERY city worldwide, we can rid ourselves of Nickelback – forever!
Darren Aronofsky to Direct Metallica – Lou Reed Music Video
Darren Aronofsky, director of The Wrestler, Black Swam, and Requiem for a Dream, is now directing a new disaster project – a Metallica & Loud Reed music video (via The Hollywood Reporter).
“The Black Swan director will be making a video for the song “Iced Honey” off the Metallica-Lou Reed album Lulu. The video will be shot with Aronofsky’s longtime cinematographer Matthew Libatique in the San Francisco Bay area, the Associated Press reports.”
“Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich seemed to be the most enthused of all the parties involved, saying in a statement, “As if making a record with Lou Reed is not enough, now I get to make a video with Darren Aronofsky who has been among my very favorite filmmakers since his first movie, Pi.”
I didn’t think that Lars would understand the movie Pi, wondering where the ‘e’ was at the end of the film’s title. That being said, I haven’t heard the Lulu album yet, and most things that Aronosky touches turns to gold, so this could be something good. See, I can be nice, too.
Coldplay Breaks iTunes Record For Most Skipped Songs
Coldplay have sold 500,000 digital copies of their latest album, Mylo Xyloto, through iTunes (via The Hollywood Reporter). Note that Gwyneth Paltrow bought 400,000 of those, though.
“The band bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart this week, the third time to do so, moving 447,000 units across all formats, according to Nielsen SoundScan (that number tallies U.S. sales only, iTunes downloads are worldwide).”
New Video: Moby – After
After watching Moby’s last video for Lay Down in Darkness, I realized that Moby was not only still making music, but making pretty solid videos, so time to let him back on the radar (Moby also wrote me letters demanding to be let back on the radar). Well, Moby stays on the radar with his latest video, for After, also from the album Destroyed. The video features kids in a nuclear powerplant playing, and then escaping. I’m not much for symbolism, but I’m guessing Moby can somehow license this song to a car company and get millions of dollars. See, that has nothing to do with symbolism, so I didn’t lie.
