Morning Music Notes – Featuring Britpop, Brought to You By the British Government

Cults have dropped a couple of tracks off of their upcoming sophomore album, Static. Now we can see a video for cool new track, High Road.

We get a video in which the cinematographer had their finger stuck on the zoom button for the first few frames, as things continually zoom in, before switching to a stylish black and white video. Cults are hoping to once again top the PeteHatesMusic Album of the Year list – check out one of their attempts to do so below.

The never ending saga of Thom Yorke and Spotify is back, with Thom Yorke saying “I feel like the way people are listening to music is going through this big transition. I feel like as musicians we need to fight the Spotify thing. I feel that in some ways what’s happening in the mainstream is the last gasp of the old industry. Once that does finally die, which it will, something else will happen.” He also says a lot more – check out a video around the 17:30 minute mark (via Consequence of Sound)

Remember Britpop? It’s not dead yet! Anyway, Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine thinks – wait for it – that it’s a GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY! Pretty sure Noel Gallagher would have no part of that. (via Guardian)

Paul McCartney recently bought albums by Kanye West, Jay Z, and The National. Perhaps he wasn’t wearing his glasses? (via NME)

So that Prince guy has a pretty nice house. It’s called Paisley Park Studios, and set him back $10 million dollars to build in 1987. It has a concert area, and tomorrow he will house a par-tay! $50 donations at the door, but you could probably steal all sorts of cool stuff and sell it on eBay (via Consequence of Sound)
