Morning Music Notes – Covers

Bands sure love covering Arctic Monkeys. We’ve had MS MR perform Do I Wanna Know?, and Queens of the Stone Age sing Why You Always Call Me When You’re High. Miley Cyrus also did a cover which I thankfully didn’t post. The latest band to cover the all-conquering Sheffield band are none than PHM favourites (and interviewees) CHVRCHES.

I didn’t think I would ever say this, but the song loses some of its sexiness with Lauren Mayberry singing it. Alex Turner, if you ever had a chance with me, it is now. Seriously though, Turner’s purring and delivery is a strong part of the original. That being said, CHVRCHES do a good job of transforming and CHVRCH-ifying the track, but it’s hard to compare anything to the original. Check out their interesting rendition below.

Danish singer is about to drop her debut album, following up catchy hits such as Don’t Wanna Dance and Waste of Time. She cites Spice Girls as an influence. Check out MØ’s take on Say You’ll Be There below.

Another song that is seeing a lot of cover action is Drake’s Hold On We’re Going Home, recently covered by Arctic Monkeys. The latest band to tackle it are Toronto indie rockers The Darcys. Check out their version below.

Our final cover today involves London trio London Grammar. The band covered All Saints, as they had to cover a band that was a past Brit Award winner. Listen to the band tackle the girl group’s track Pure Shores.
