Morning Music Notes – Jack White Will Make You A Vinyl Record
There’s a New Venue in Toronto
Having too many music venues is not really a problem a city can have. Well, let me add “a city where bands like to tour.” Thankfully, lots of bands come to Toronto, and thankfully, we have a new concert hall in the heart of the city. Japandroids are playing a gig on June 17 at the Adelaide Music Hall. This seemingly made up venue is actually a redesign and rebranding of the London Tap House, on Adelaide St. W, just west of Duncan St. (via The Grid). Not sure how much of a “music hall” it actually is, but we didn’t name it.
The bar with the roof top patio has decided to convert its first and second floors into a concert space. There is a goal of getting a balcony area to be an all-ages area for shows, too, but that hasn’t been finalized. Before Japandroids, the venue hopes to host some NXNE gigs, as well as serve me beers until I get kicked out (which won’t take long).
Jack White to Make Your Vinyl Dreams Come True
Jack White is the ambassador of Record Store Day, which is this Saturday. The day is also 4/20, so Snoop Dogg might have a few “recreational” things planned, too. As part of RSD, White’s Third Man Records has a little something something planned. They are going to let fans buy all their records! use a 1947 Voice-o-Graph, which is apparently the only public vinyl recording booth in the entire known universe (via NME). Lucky fans will be able to record up to 2 minutes (which is actually perfect for some White Stripes songs), and then have it cut into a 6 inch phonograph disc. Very cool! Jack White, will you be my friend?
San Fran’s Outside Lands Lands Macca, RHCP, NIN
The Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco is having its sixth edition this August 9-11. I’m guessing by the amazing name that it takes place on lands outside? They have landed headliners Paul McCartney, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nine Inch Nails for their headliners (via Hollywood Reporter).
The line up is actually one of the stronger North American festival line ups this year, also featuring Phoenix, Grizzly Bear, Vampire Weekend, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The National, D’Angelo, Yeasayer, Foals, Youth Lagoon, and many more.
For beer and wine drinkers – which is pretty much this concert’s demographic – there will be curated Beer Lands and Wine Lands. Somehow the word curated just makes these Lands awesome. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.
