Morning Music Notes – This Is Our Fourth Album, What Should We Call It?
Amy Winehouse’s Camden Home Up for Sale
The house that Amy Winehouse died in in North London has been listed for sale by her family (via Yahoo). I know people die in homes all the time, but living in a house where you KNOW someone died – and a famous musician, too – would be a touch odd. I wonder if it’ll be bought by a super fan or other artists seeking inspiration or heavenly intervention.
“Amy loved that house but none of the family felt it appropriate that they should live in it and it was not practical to keep it empty while paying the costs of its upkeep” a spokesman said in an email to Reuters. The property is reported listed for 2.7 million pounds, which is about 2.699999 million more pounds than I currently have to my name.
Bloc Party Announce Their Fourth Album, Aptly Named Four
An English band has reunited and named their fourth album after the numerical release number. No, we’re not talking about the Verve and Forth (which I assumed was a play on words) – we’re talking about Bloc Party. As I retweeted yesterday (since I was might’ve been drinking some beers and didn’t want to type 140 characters), Bloc Party have announced their new album will be called Four. From singer Kele Okereke’s blog:
“we have just finished mixing our new record. i am very proud of it. it is the best thing that we have ever done and finishing this record has taken us on quite a journey.”
“there have been babies, breakdowns, tantrums and hospitalisations but its finally here. we started making this record in NY in the winter of 2011. we didn’t want to let the world know so we told a lie that got out of hand but it made us laugh in the process, which brought us closer together.”
Of COURSE it’s the best thing you’ve done – EVERY band says that. There’s lots more rambling interesting information at the blog post, so check it out if you’re so inclined. There’s also a 3.5 minute trailer you can check out below to get an idea of what their “best thing” that they have ever done sounds like. I’m actually kind of excited now.

London’s Underground Now Has Wifi at Some Stations
Back in March, Virgin Media was awarded the wireless Internet contract that was to put wifi in about 80 Tube stations in London ahead of the Olympics. They settled for this, rather than their drill to the centre of the universe. Yesterday, the first wifi went live, meaning commuters close to the centre of the universe can now check their Facebook while waiting for the subway (via Slash Gear). The wifi is free for now, but Virgin will charge for the service later on (what did you expect – free wifi forever?!).
The wifi will work within the stations and platforms, but not on the trains between stations, which is sort of common sense. Maybe you’re reading this post on a station right now? Yeah, didn’t think so – you’re really in jail, if we’ve cultivated our readership properly. The full list of wifi stations can be found here, and include Oxford Circus, Stratford, King’s Cross, London Bridge, Canary Wharf, and even the Tube station across the street from me (which I won’t tell you, you crazy stalker). However, I have reduced your odds to 1 in 80 to find me. Good luck!
Red Hot Chili Peppers to Release 18 Songs In Next 6 Months
Good news for Red Hot Chili Peppers fans – John Frusciante has rejoined the band!!! the RHCP will be releasing a series of digital and 7″ singles, resulting in 18 songs over 6 months (via NME). Bassist Flea wrote on his Twitter account about something other than the LA Lakers, noting “We have been writing stuff while touring. We are also going to put out 18 new songs over the next 6 months on 7 inch and digitally.” Let’s hope the songs don’t sound like this.
Listen! Maximo Park – Hips and Lips (Errors Remix)
Glaswegian band, Errors, are playing at the Field Day Festival in London tomorrow, and you really should try and see them. If you can’t or won’t, let’s fight maybe this will tide you over – the band have remixed Maximo Park’s Hips and Lips. Maximo Park are about to release The National Health on June 11. Listen to the song rain down some synth on the original.

[…] For some reason, there’s going to be a LOT of people in London for the next 2.5 or 3 weeks. A lot of these people will want Internet – data roaming fees aren’t what they’re cracked up to be. UK mobile carrier, O2, will kick off its free Wi-Fi service tomorrow, blanketing parts of the city in glorious O2 Wi-Fi – even for non-O2 customers (via Digital Trends). Maybe you can then tweet about the Olympics, and watch the London Eye change colours. This will compliment Virgin’s Wi-Fi service on 80 underground Tube stations. […]
