Do You Like Dating People With Similar Music Tastes? Spotify Now Has Matchmaking Apps
I used to think dating a girl with the same musical tastes was the be all, end all. Who cares if we had nothing else in common and fought all the time – as long as our favourite bands were the soundtrack to these fights, everyone wins, right? It turns out, I was very wrong. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t girls out there that share your musical tastes and interests. And Spotify has jumped into the fold with 2 such apps – Tastebuds and Fellody (via Hypebot). Tastebuds sounds more like a dating website based on food similarities, but that’s a minor point.
Tastebuds looks at the artists your potential match has listened to the most, as well as their playlists. The app does some filtering for your matches, such as gender (always a sticking point in dating), age, and location. To help the stalking, you can add shows you are attending with the Songkick app.
Fellody sounds like a lazy way of matching people – you drop your playlist into the app and find potential suitors based on the match rate. Hopefully you don’t drop your favourite “sad songs” list into app, or you could land yourself your own Debbie Downer.
Does the app work? Well, the makers obviously think so. “43% of first messages get a reply on Tastebuds.fm,” according to Alex Parish, co-founder, “a much higher response rate than non-music based dating sites”. Robin Simon, co-founder of app Fellody, says “We are very happy to welcome all Spotify users on Fellody, where they might get more groupies with their taste in music than Robbie Williams during the 90’s.”
Good luck, single folks!
