Camden Crawl Critical Conclusions for….This is the Kit (2012 Camden Crawl Review)

PeteHatesMusic is at the 2012 Camden Crawl, and giving a gig by gig review as they happen. Below is our Camden Crawl Critical Conclusions for….This is the Kit.

Venue: Roundhouse Terrace & Bar. The terrace part didn’t happen due to the weather, so we got an intimate gig inside instead.

First Impressions: Just singer Kate and her banjo for the first song – a complete 180 from the previous band (Imperial Leisure). Also, the crowd sat on the floor?!

Stage Presence: 7.5/10 – Kate is shy and soft spoken, but friendly and tried to be engaging. When singing, she’s confident and sure.

Crowd Reaction: – 7.5/10 – somewhat muted, possibly due to the intimate setting. That, and the majority of people were sitting on the floor – very weird.

Banter: 7.5/10 – Some chatter, often mumbled, between songs.

“Was the banjo too loud? It was up here, too!”

Number of times they said their band name: Just once, before the last song.

Sound Quality: 8.5/10 – I had trouble hearing her talk about the songs but the singing and the rest sounded great. The crowd chatter was noticeable though.

Water/alcohol/neither: No liquids for them.

The Last Word:7.5/10 – Based on their tweets, they didn’t have the best day. However, their performance was good. Kate’s gorgeous vocals, simple, mellow, striped down songs suit her voice. Good rainy day and relaxing music.

Since we both like spending our weekends walking around Camden discovering bands, how about you “follow PeteHatesMusic on Twitter” and “Like PeteHatesMusic on Facebook” to ensure we help each other a) discover cool new bands and b) not pass out in a ditch in Camden.
