Camden Crawl Critical Conclusions for….Magic Lantern (2012 Camden Crawl Review)

PeteHatesMusic is at the 2012 Camden Crawl, and giving a gig by gig review as they happen. Below is our Camden Crawl Critical Conclusions for….Magic Lantern.

Disclaimer: I only caught the first 3 songs due to delays at the venue earlier.

Venue: Roundhouse Terrace & Bar. Like This is the Kit before, the terrace was not used and it was an indoor show.

First Impressions:This is going to be great, they have a clarinet! The singer has a very soft and excellent voice.

Stage Presence:6 people all focused on their tasks.

Crowd Reaction: 7.5/10 – unfortunately, the crowd was quite small. They deserved better.

Banter: 9/10 – Confident despite the small crowd. Funny and engaging.

“If you’ve never been here before, there is a magic space 10m from the stage that people can’t stand in at this venue, and you got the memo”

“In the last 5 minutes, I’ve mastered the art of playing a guitar without a strap. It’s a lot harder than it looks!”

Number of times they said their band name: I left early and heard none.

Sound Quality: Same as This is the Kit, minus the loud crowd banter.

Water/alcohol/neither: I saw nothing.

The Last Word: 8/10, and would’ve loved to have seen more, but the Milk were calling. Very unique and soft songs.

Since we both like spending our weekends walking around Camden discovering bands, how about you “follow PeteHatesMusic on Twitter” and “Like PeteHatesMusic on Facebook” to ensure we help each other a) discover cool new bands and b) not pass out in a ditch in Camden.
