Morning Music Notes – Everybody Dance Now, says Sir Paul

Facebook Music Service Leaked?

Facebook underwent a radical overhaul yesterday (and a lot of people hate it) ahead of their conference today. Announcements and features have been leaking ahead of time, including the rumoured music app. SlashGear reports that there will be a “Listen with your friend” feature, apparently set to be added to the social network’s new ticker. . Facebook creative director Ji Lee accidentally revealed the communal streaming system in a promptly-deleted tweet. That’s what happens when you use too much social media!

The system will presumably add Facebook Music links to the ticker bar, TechCrunch suggests, along with a link marked “Listen with your friend” which will allow users to tune into a stream of the same track, sync’d to the same point.

Full details are expected to be announced later today.

Paul McCartney To Debut Ballet Score Tonight

You’re on the wrong side of 60. You’re a part of musical history, in what is widely recognized as the best band in rock and roll history. You’re coming off of a divorce. How do you spend your time (and BILLIONS of dollars)? Why, writing a classical score for a ballet, of course. Yes, I’m talking about Bon Jovi

Sir Paul McCartney has written classical numbers before, but this is the first time he has taken a crack at the ballet world (via Guardian). The show plays at Manhattan’s Lincoln Centre.

“The work, named Ocean’s Kingdom, will be given its first performance by the New York City Ballet at the company’s autumn gala. It is made up of four movements, is conducted by John Wilson and performed by the London Classical Orchestra.”

McCartney said, “What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song – trying to write something that expressed an emotion. So you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with, and I found that exciting and challenging.”

The show is 90 minutes long and as well as recording the music for the show, McCartney also came up with some of the movements. Hde said: “At the beginning of the third movement, I said, ‘OK one of the characters is in prison she should be like this [puts his hands over his head and leans forward]’.

Watch out, Martin Scorsese!
