Morning Music Notes – Pirate Bay Users Going Down with the Ship
If You Use The Pirate Bay, You Are Probably Being Watched – RUN!
Now that I’ve finished getting the latest season of Breaking Bad from the Pirate Bay, comes news about Pirate Bay downloaders being watched. Well, isn’t that great (and I’m kidding, lawyers! I was getting Vampire Diaries). A study in Birmingham, UK, suggests that users of torrent website, The Pirate Bay, have been monitored (via Digital Trends). The 3 year study found that IP addresses were being recorded on a massive scale by “copyright enforcement organisations, security companies, and even government research labs.”
The study also found that the tracking techniques aren’t 100% reliable – yet – so the chances of prosecution aren’t super high. But you should stop downloading Coexist by The xx and buy it on Monday.
Is James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem Producing the New Arcade Fire Album?
James Murphy has retired his LCD Soundsystem project and is free to do other things, like Bingo and Farmville. A few years ago, Murphy told Pitchfork that LCD took over his life, and he couldn’t do things such as produce for Arcade Fire or Spoon. But maybe he is producing for Arcade Fire now. Let’s put some words into his mouth:
In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Lowe asked “What can you tell us about what you’re doing? Can you talk about the AF record? Is that on the cards?”
Murphy slyly replied “No, no. That’s not something I can talk about yet. The Abercrombie & Fitch record,” (via Fuse).
The operative word being yet. Or is it Abercrombie & Fitch?! Although I failed those deductive reasoning classes, I’m sure some PhD could conclude that he is in fact producing it. So we’ll run with that.
Apple Holding Event on September 12, and All Signs Point to the iPhone 5
The Internet runs an interesting cycle with regards to Apple. Apple will release a product. Most of the Internet will beat themselves up trying to explain how awesome it is, while another portion will say that it’s expensive products for fan boys. A few months will pass, and then people will devote all their time to rumours about the next product. It almost feels like the American elections, where more time is spent campaigning than actually running the country. That being said, the much rumoured iPhone 5 is likely to be announced at the new Apple event on September 12 (via Crave). I do think the picture is quite clever, with some creative shadowing of the 12 to look like a 5. As for what the iPhone 5 will have, I’m hoping it’ll have a scratch and sniff feature, like those stickers I had growing up. Then, I’d get a new iPhone.
Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic Joins the Vaselines to Play Jesus Don’t Want Me For A Sunbeam
I still hold Nirvana’s Unplugged in New York album as one of my favourite albums ever. It showcased Kurt Cobain’s vocal talents, and not just his screaming, and showed a potential new direction that Nirvana could’ve taken. One of the songs on that album is a cover of a band that influenced Nirvana greatly – The Vaselines. Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic returned to the stage with The Vaselines at Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival to reprise his accordion part that he did on the Unplugged album. Relive the magic below, courtesy of guerrillacandy.com.

Listen! Rihanna – Cockiness Remix featuring A$AP Rocky
Rihanna wants us to suck her cockiness, and I’m speechless. Helping her perform such a task is A$AP Rocky from the hip hop collective, A$AP Mob. Rocky throws down the first verse on the remixed Cockiness track, which features slow, repeated vocal chanting as part of the slow groove beat. Check it out below.
