Morning Music Notes – Perfume for Everyone

One of the stages collapsed last night at the Ottawa Bluesfest. The Toronto Sun reports that due to high winds and a God that dislikes Death Cab for Cutie, the main stage got blown backwards and collapsed while Cheap Trick was playing. The 9,000 or so fans wisely ran towards the Canada War Museum, to learn instead. An amateur video of the chaos, including screaming and audio muffled by wind, is below. The spectacular fashion of the collapse is quite cinematic. Apparently, there were no injuries (UPDATE: 3 people have minor injuries); not even by the rioting 14 year old girls who missed Death Cab.

I Can Sing, Therefore I Can Make Perfume

I know you’ve all been dying for an update in the perfume world (?!), so here it is. Part-time singer Britney Spear is releasing a perfume called Cosmic Radiance, says the Hollywood Reporter. It is believed to be the first time a singer has released a perfume and not known what one of the words in the name means. This is Spears’ FOURTH line of perfume, following Curious, Fantasy, and Radiance. I think there’s a non-so clever Toxic pun to be made here. But Britney Spears isn’t the only one releasing perfume. 12-year old Taylor Swift is also releasing a new perfume, called Wonderstruck, notes the Hollywood Reporter. Swift recently postponed several concert dates on her Speak Now tour, due to illness. No word if it was related to smelling her perfume and wondering what on earth she is endorsing.

Apparently, it was a slow news weekend. More news to follow throughout the day, as it happens.

Wow…slow news day indeed. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, another musician has gotten into the fragrance world. This makes me sick.

It’s too bad everyone hears about Bluesfest this way.
Really an under-rated amazing music festival… the only one I’ve seen that succeeds in making old people watch Skrillex, and young people watch Buddy Guy. Pretty cool.

…although a stage blowing down mid-concert makes for pretty spectacular footage.

It’s one of those catch 22 things. I love Bluefest and think everyone should know about it BUT one of the things that makes it still SO great in my mind is that it still flies under the radar and therefore has amazing musical acts that people can afford to see….

While I don’t really condone her music as readily as some other “toxic” fans, I have to say Britney’s Fantasy isn’t too bad of a perfume and may have owned a bottle in the past.

[…] July 4-15 will see blues fans (and mainly NON-blues fans) descend on Canada’s capital for the Ottawa Bluesfest (I don’t get paid to report it as the RBC Royal Bank Bluefest, and no one in their right mind actually calls it that in the real world). The lineup was just announced and features acts such as Snoop Dogg (with hologram Tupac? probably not), Iron Maiden, Tiësto, Skrillex, Alice Cooper, Seal (!?!), Lauryn Hill, Metric, Norah Jones, Beirut, The Weeknd, Deltron 3030, Mastodon, Dirty Projectors, Thievery Corporation, Paul Oakenfold, MSTKRFT, Chromeo, !!!, Blitzen Trapper, and all your favourite other blues artists. The party kicks off at LeBreton Flats Park shortly after Canada Day. Make sure you see Seal for me! Also, let’s hope things go better than last year’s stage collapse…. […]
