Morning Music Notes – Happy G.O.O.D. Friday Everyone
Yup, I stole the G.O.O.D. Friday pun from Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music Fridays, but today is actually Good Friday, so I’m forgiven, right? Wrong.
Listen to new Kanye West track, Mercy, featuring Big Sean, Pusha T, and 2 Chainz
Kanye West announced he’d be dropping a new track today, since no one releases songs, they only drop them. The track is Mercy, and features a slew of guest stars. Not as great as his last 2 brilliant albums, but then again, I didn’t like the first track from Watch the Throne (H.A.M.) and that album turned out more than alright. The track is expected to be on the G.O.O.D. Music collaborative album, and is rumoured to also feature songs with Frank Ocean and Jay Electronica. Give Mercy a listen below.

Pitchfork Festival Adds More Acts (Who Won’t Be At Benicassim or Optimus Alive)
July 13-15 is one good weekend for worldwide festivals. You have the Benicassim festival in Spain, you have Optimus Alive in Portugal, and you have the Pitchfork festival in the United States. The Pitchfork festival just got a whole lot better, so those of you stateside are in for a treat. Pitchfork have added a bunch of acts, including Beach House, Wild Flag, Real Estate, Cults, and Atlas Sound, amongst many others (via Pitchfork, of course). These acts are added to the lineup that already includes Vampire Weekend, Feist, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, Dirty Projectors, Flying Lotus, AraabMUZIK, A$AP Rocky, the Field, and many others. So throw on some ironic clothing, a snarky button, and get ready to bash some bands!
YouTube – Now in 3D!
If you just saw Titanic in 3D (and let’s be honest, who didn’t?!), perhaps you’re a little bit closer to jumping on this 3D bandwagon. Well, now YouTube users can view those 1080p videos in a bunch of different 3D modes (via Digital Trends). While Google recommends that you record using a 3D camera, who the hell has those? That, and you can still use normal, lame 2D video that is recorded in high definition. Of course there’s a catch, but it’s one of those “common sense” things that so much of society is lacking – you need 3D glasses or 3D hardware in order to actually watch the videos in 3D.
Actually, that’s not 100% true (ignore me back stepping). Google (who owes YouTube) has tried several ways of letting those without those ultra cool 3D glasses to try and watch a 3D video. Remember those 3D eye magic art things? Well, YouTube will run two video feeds side by side with a tiny white dot above each video. You need to go cross-eyed, and through the magic of optics, a third video should appear in the middle, and it should also look 3D. Sounds like headache-inducing bullshit to me!
Why Can’t We Just Watch TV? 88% of Tablet Owners Muck About On Their Tablets While Watching TV
I’ve been guilty of not just being able to watch TV. My attention span has gone to shit. A 20-minute, commercial-free show on DVD, and I still have to reach for my phone, check email, maybe Facebook, to see that I still haven’t reached a message since 2004. It turns out I’m not alone (that’s only when I sleep at night) – 86% of smartphone users check their texts or other content on their phone at least once a month while watching TV (via Slashgear). This number increases to 88% for tablet users. However, for tablet users, 45% of them check their tablets while watching TV on a daily basis. Even more surreal: 26% of them only watch TV if their iPad or other tablet is with them. That in itself should be an ad to sell more tablets (or more TVs).
