Josh Homme and Scott Reader File Lawsuit Against Kyuss Members
Ah, the classic rock n’ roll dilemma – when to carry on using a band name when members leave. The Doors and Queen have tried it, despite losing the face (and more importantly, the voice) of their bands, and Pink Floyd did it, despite Roger Waters trying to sue. Well, the latest in rock lawsuits comes from Kyuss, which consisted of Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme, as well as singer John Garcia, bassist Nick Oliveri, drummer Brant Bjork. Well, the latter 3 revived the band, under the Kyuss Lives name, and Josh Homme and another former Kyuss bassist, Scott Reader, have filed a lawsuit against the 3, claiming the name “alleges trademark infringement and consumer fraud by Kyuss Lives!” (via Rolling Stone).
Via PR firm Nasty Little Man, Homme and Reeder released a statement:
“It sucks. To think we went to a meeting in January solely to help them with their request to continue Kyuss Lives! With open arms, we made every attempt to help them continue Kyuss Lives! respectfully. Only to discover while they looked us in the eye, Kyuss Lives! management and band had filed federal documents in 2011 in an attempt to steal the name Kyuss. This is desperately what we were trying to avoid. It’s a sad day for us and for John – but most of all for the fans. What a needless mess.”
If you quit a band, should the original members get to carry on with the name? I’m not a lawyer, but you don’t hear about these lawsuits too often.
Facebook Friend Finder: Not Helpful When It Gets You Charged for Bigamy
Bizarre story out of Washington state. You know that tool on Facebook that tells you who you should be friends with? It reminds me of my parents in public school. “Jason likes baseball – so do you! You should hang out” Well, the Facebook tool looks at mutual friends you have and suggests that you might know them, too. Well, in Washington, a man had Facebook recommend two women to become friends. Unfortunately for this man, the women are BOTH his wives – yup, he’s a bigamist (via Digital Trends).
Wife #1 saw a recommendation of a friend on Facebook. She didn’t know the woman, but the man in the picture holding wedding cake was her husband. Cue the tears and that god-awful feeling in your stomach. Turns out the man, Alan L. O’Neill got married in 2001, moved out in 2009 but didn’t get a divorce, changed his name (like all single men do) and got married again. Facebook: the number one cause of divorces in America.
Of Course It Had To Happen: Line Ups Outside Apple Store in London
London is experiencing some wicked weather this week for the time of year (and for the gloomy country that is England). As I frantically type this so that I can enjoy the sun that is beaming through my window, it’s about 16 degrees C (60 degrees F). But since the new iPad 3 is coming out this Friday, some Apple fanboys decided to line up outside the Apple store on Regent Street (via Slash Gear). The guys lined up, Ali and Zohaib, will be missing the awesome weather, but they will get their hands on the iPad first, and for that reason alone, girls will flock to them.
Watch! Will Ferrell – Yo No Se
When viewing the most recent Friday Afternoon Funnies video, taken from Funny or Die, I noticed a new song from Will Ferrell (?!). Will Ferrell sings in Spanish, for his upcoming movie, Casa De Mi Padre, which translates to PeteHatesMusic Is the Best…actually, I don’t know. The comedy movie stars, out on March 16, Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Diego Luna, and features a song, Yo No Se, and I don’t know what the means either. Oh, it does mean “I don’t know” – heck, a broken clock is right twice a day, and this is my one time. Watch the music video below.
