Morning Music Notes – It Only Took 50 Years, But Now Paul McCartney is a Star
So, Steve Jobs Had an FBI File
Is there anyone in America who doesn’t have an FBI file? America feels they are under constant threat, so much so that they flag people like Steve Jobs and John Lennon. Actually, the FBI was checking out Jobs (if you know what I mean) for a tech job within the Bush administration (via Slash Gear). The FBI interviewed colleagues of Jobs and collected the interviews, which are now available for downloading (and surely boring reading) because of the Freedom of Information Act. There are huge sections of text blacked out, but that is to protect the address of information of the people interviewed – or so the FBI would like us to believe. The file reveals Steve Jobs’ drug use, and his vast intelligence. So, nothing earth shattering
Paul McCartney Gets Star on Walk of Fame, Upcoming Tribute Cover Album and Free Candy!
Sir Paul McCartney has achieved almost everything a musician can dream of. Now, he can add a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to his list. This begs the obvious question – why did they wait 50 years since the height of Beatlemania to bestow this “honour” upon him? Another tribute – a Macca-approved tribute album which will consist of covers from The Beatles, Wings, and his solo work (via Hollywood Reporter). The album will be curated by Ralph Sall, who was behind the Deadicated collection from 1991, which had cover songs of the Grateful Dead.
The album has a few heavy hitters, but none who will really interest the young generation. Artists include Billy Joel, Brian Wilson, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Steve Miller, Jeff Lynne, Heart, Wanda Jackson, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Ronnie Spector, The Cure and Corinne Bailey Rae. I’m not sure if this list interests older generations, either. The making of the album has been filmed, including interviews with artists, so they can crank out the necessary footage on TV, and probably DVD. No official release date has been mentioned.
Suge Knight Arrested – A Common Headline Throughout History
Former Death Row Records executive, Suge Knight, was arrested in Las Vegas – not for doing coke off of a stripper and then killing her – for making an unsafe lane change (boring!) and possession of less than one ounce of a controlled substance (a bit more interesting!) (via Billboard). Hasn’t he been arrested for his rumoured part in the Tupac/Biggie murders yet?
Watch! Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Dream On
Noel Gallagher, he of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, has a new video for new single Dream On. The song is taken from the band’s self titled first album. The video features a man boxing with a woman, which sounds like the ideal Valentine’s Day plans for Chris Brown. Noel Gallagher is the referee, which I’m sure has some deep meaning that I couldn’t be bothered to figure out.
