CMW Critical Conclusions for…BASECAMP (Canadian Music Week 2014 concert review)
Day 3 of Canadian Music Week kicked off at the famed Lee’s Palace to see the trio known as BASECAMP. Check out our thoughts below.
Venue: Lee’s Palace (not sure why I needed to spell this out again)
First Impressions: No one was on the floor to see the band. Instead, everyone was seated around the floor or chatting at the bar. Yes, I was also guilty of not being on the floor. Besides that, the singer has very impressive pipes! No studio magic there. He had wooed a handful of people away from the bar by the end of the first track.
Stage Presence: Lots of bobbing and jigging to their sounds.
Crowd Reaction: Gathered in size as the show went on, and subtly danced to themselves.
Random Observation: They dressed like they raided a Lost and Found only minutes before the show. And who ties a shirt around their waist these days?
The Last Word: 8.5/10 – Great production work in a live setting, with a flurry of beats and sounds coming at the crowd. Great vocals, too. We got their fine track Emmanuel, as well as an Ace of Base cover in All That She Wants. What’s not to like? These guys from Nashville are poised for a breakout.
