Morning Music Notes – Planning the Make Up Shortly After the Break Up
Liam Gallagher is Open to Oasis Reunion….in 2015
Oasis broke up in early 2009, not to anyone’s surprise, after years of towing the line between break up and brilliant. Liam formed Beady Eye with all the members of Oasis minus Noel. The album was pretty terrible. Noel Gallagher hit back with his solo effort, which if you haven’t heard it, is much better than Beady Eye. Noel has another album out next year, too. Noel is looking like he will have the number one album in the UK this week, too, something Beady Eye couldn’t manage.
Preamble aside, it comes as no surprise that Liam has sort of come crawling back, stating that he is open to an Oasis reunion in 2015, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of landmark Britpop album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory (via Guardian).
“If we can put our shit aside, we can tour and play the album in its entirety for the 20th anniversary,” Liam told Rolling Stone magazine. “I’d be up for that, if it’s on our terms. There’s got to be two-way respect.”
“[The] 20-year anniversary of Morning Glory is looming and we could have maybe come back,” Noel said in August. In another interview, he went even further: “I think it’s a shame that Champagne Supernova, Rock and Roll Star, The Importance of Being Idle and The Shock of the Lightning will never be played again. In a stadium. That fills me with sadness.”
“[Noel’s] the one that keeps mentioning it,” Liam said. “I want to put him out of his misery. But I think he needs to do his solo thing first and realise he’s not that good without his brother. He’s got to find out for himself. I’m up for it – I’m not desperate for it. If it doesn’t work out, I don’t give a shit, I’m quite happy with Beady Eye.”
Oh, Liam – you can’t just compliment your brother, you had to slip a zinger in there at the end (I would’ve done the same).
Black Friday Record Store Day Releases
Record Store Day has long come and gone. However, Black Friday (which is not a Rebecca Black remix; it’s the day after that weird November US Thanksgiving) will be getting some special vinyl features (via Billboard).
“The initiative, aimed at supporting independent record stores, will offer releases including a vinyl singles box set from the Beatles, four-LP box set from Janis Joplin, the first volume of the Who’s Pete Townshend’s “Quadrophenia” demos and a pair of 7″ singles from the Byrds. Releases by more current artists will include live EPs by Soundgarden and Iron & Wine and singles from the Black Keys, Dr. Dog and Ryan Adams, among others.
Record Store Day was founded in 2007 and has generated increased sales and attention toward participating retailers in the four events since: indie stores’ numbers were up 39% for the week during this year’s event. ”
I plan to participate this year. Step one: buy a record player….
Make Your Ears Happy: Garbage covers U2’s Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
Hopefully you’ve checked out the first 2 U2 cover songs on PHM. First was Jack White’s great version of Love is Blindness, followed by the also excellent version of One by Damien Rice. The third in Q magazine’s (horribly, horribly name) AHK-toong BAY-bi cover album is Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses, done by Garbage. This is Garbage’s first ‘new’ material in over four years. It’s a great take on the song.
