Morning Music Notes – Everything Was the Same on Billboard

We haven’t heard too much from Mikal Cronin since we caught him on the awesome Bruise Cruise at NXNE. Now we get another cut from MCII.

The latest video is for the gentle, acoustic track Peace of Mind. We see a cleaning lady played by Mary Timony of Helium/Wild Flag, as well as Cronin somewhat creepily showing up on the TVs in the motel. Check out the California pop tune below.

In a surprise to absolutely nobody, Drake’s Nothing Was The Same debuted at the top of the Billboard charts. It sold 658,000 copies, more than those hacks Kanye West and Jay-Z, and second to only Justin Timberlake’s 968,000 copies for most in one week in 2013. This is Drake’s third straight number 1 album (via Billboard)

This Sunday at Mel Lastman Square in Toronto (well, North York), Sarah Harmer and friends will play a benefit called Rock the Line, to raise awareness to Enbridge’s plans to change the oil flow in Line 9 across Southern Ontario. Also playing are Gord Downie with the Sadies, Hayden and Minotaurs. More information can be found here – the more you know!

Last night, Danny Brown played with Action Bronson in Toronto. Brown had been denied entry into Canada before the Edmonton and Vancouver shows. He made it this time, and played Toronto and will now play Montreal. It’s all about where you cross. Trash Talk, also on the tour, did not make it in. Oh, Canada, and your border guards. In a sketch that starts off somewhat weak, watch Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme audition for the next Star Wars film. He wants to play a droid. It doesn’t go so well.
