Morning Music Notes – Allelujah! We Have a Polaris Prize Winner
Fresh off supporting Ellie Goulding at the iTunes Festival in London is young indie pop starlet Laura Welsh. I said it before, but the track Undiscovered is a little poppier than the music I typically listen to, but I was drawn in by first single Cold Front.
The video has half-naked dancers, so if you don’t like the catchy, poppy chorus, you might like the video. Check it out below.

One of my favourite bands (and my 3rd favourite album from 2012) is Montreal’s Godspeed You! Black Emperor. They have won the coveted Polaris Prize for 2013 for Best Canadian album. The band will net $30,000, which they will generously donate to help support musical instruments and education in Quebec prisons. Also making the short list were A Tribe Called Red, Zaki Ibrahim, Metric, METZ, Purity Ring, Colin Stetson, Tegan and Sara, Whitehorse, and Young Galaxy. A well earned victory.
I might be obsessed with like Atoms for Peace, but $105 for a Stanley Donwood-created Atoms for Peace jigsaw puzzle seems a bit extreme (via Consequence of Sound)
M.I.A. has offered a statement about her ongoing lawsuit with the NFL, saying “It’s a massive waste of time, a massive waste of money, it’s a massive display of powerful corporation dick-shaking. They want me on my knees and say sorry so they can slap me on my wrist.” (via Pitchfork)
Hey, check out the cover of Paul McCartney’s latest album, New.
The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne was kicked off of Instagram, presumably for posting too many nude photos. Thankfully you can’t get kicked off of the Internet for that. (via NME)
