Morning Music Notes – Mylo Xyloto is the New Snickers
Coldplay Talk About Mylo Xyloto
Mylo Xyloto is the name of the new Coldplay album. It is not the name of an ancient tribe, or galaxy in space, or a Greek instrument, or a disease you don’t want to get. Singer Chris Martin and drummer Will Champion have some thoughts on the process behind the album name (Via MTV):
“It sort of has a nice appearance to it,” Martin continued, “with all those O’s. We had it on one of our many lists for about two years and for all the other titles that were suggested, it kept winning.” (PHM note: Chris Martin might be hanging out with Charlie Sheen)
“But then we thought well, but maybe in the old days before anyone knew what a Snickers was, that word would have sounded weird as well, or Google … or Yahoo! So why not try and invent something new?”
This might explain Martin’s choice in names of kids – Apple and Moses. Martin also discussed how the album is going to sound.
“Well, our new record is sort of a story; it’s not quite a musical, but it’s dangerously close,” he said. There’s a bit of a love story thread, so we really needed someone to sing even higher than me. [It’s] hard, but very possible. You need to be a female really. For all [drummer] Will [Champion]’s good intentions, he [can’t do it]…”
Scared yet?
The band dropped by the Late Show with David Letterman and played new single Paradise. You can watch it down below.
Radiohead to Tour in 2012, Plus a New Atoms for Peace Album!
It’s no secret here that PeteHatesMusic loves (er, hates?) Radiohead. If they banged on pots and pans for 50 minutes, it would be the most musical 50 minutes of my life. When lead singer Thom Yorke launched a solo album several years ago, it was a surprising but welcome departure. He even toured last year, roping in Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea and Radiohead producer Nigel Goderich to play, along with a few others, forming a sideband for live shows called Atoms for Peace. It appears that mini one-off tour is more than meets the eye (like those Transformers I’m told) – the band are finishing an album together (via NME).
Thom Yorke also revealed he is an alien! that Radiohead plan to tour off and on throughout 2012.
For those of you who want some background music or want to watch a live DVD bootleg in its entirety, check out Atoms for Peace playing at the Orpheum in October 2009 . No guarantees on song or video quality though. It is weird to see Flea so relaxed though!
