The Tea Party Might Strike It Rich
Canadian rockers, the Tea Party, recently reunited and played several shows across Canada (PHM review of their Toronto show is here). In stark contrast, the Tea Party of the United States are not making music, they are making runs at political power. However, the band owns the rights to what might now be a very powerful and rich domain name – teaparty.com (via The Guardian).
“So much damage has been done to our name by the political movement that we’re considering selling [the website],” Tea Party bassist Stuart Chatwood recently told BusinessWeek. The band do not support Tea Party politics: “As Canadians, we’re sensitive to all the criticism of socialised medicine,” he said. Although the Tea Party would rather sell their domain name to a liberal satirist such as Jon Stewart or a Democratic fundraiser such as George Soros, Chatwood said the URL will probably go to the highest bidder. “We’ve got families,” he said.
Analysts estimate that the domain could be worth up to $1 million (Canadian or American??). Let’s hope that the little known political party PeteHatesPolitics starts making waves that we can cash in on.
Jonny Greenwood to Team With Composer Krzysztof Penderecki
Radiohead and Jonny Greenwood fans might know that Jonny helped celebrate composer Krzysztof Penderecki’s work in a concert in Poland last week, at the Sacrum Profanum music festival. Apparently now, Greenwood and Penderecki have recorded together at Alvernia Studios in Krakow, Poland (via Consequence of Sound).
Filip Berkowicz is serving as producer, and is also the Artistic Director of Sacrum Profanum. The entire announcement is posted for your reading pleasure. BONUS – footage of Jonny Greenwood performing a little diddy of Penderecki’s Polymorphia at last week’s concert.
“It will be a fantastic event. Krzysztof Penderecki, one of the greatest composers, and Radiohead’s guitarist Jonny Greenwood, who performed Sunday at the inaugural concert of this year’s edition of the Sacrum Profanum Festival, are recording an album! It will be prepared by the National Audiovisual Institute and released by the legendary American label Nonesuch Records. The record will contain compositions by Penderecki and Greenwood that resounded at the concert crowning Wroc?aw’s European Culture Congress. The album’s tracks were recorded yesterday and today in Alvernia Studios, a studio based near Krakow. The producer of the album is Filip Berkowicz, the Artistic Director of the Sacrum Profanum Festival.”

Nothing Upsets Protesting Churches Like a Song about Hot Man-Muffins
Little known band
In typically awesome Foo Fighters fashion, they made sure they handled things with a laugh. Dave Grohl and co. threw on redneck beards, wigs and trucker hats, put their equipment on the back of a pick-up truck, and sung a song. A new one, you might say. It was called ‘Keep It Clean’, and was their ode to same-sex loving, including the line “I’ve got a hankering for something, think I’m in the mood for some hot man-muffins.”
The impromptu gig came after the church group, the subject of a number of Louis Theroux documentaries, announced they were going to picket the band’s show due to their teaching of “fornication, adultery, idolatry and fags.” Watch the video below.

I’d say to Stuart Chatwood that so much damage has been done to their name not by the political party, but by themselves, through their increasingly pretentious pap; that’s why they now need the money so bad. Good story though.
