Slayer Guitarist Jeff Hanneman Dies

This funny and happy blog has turned into the depressing 6 o’clock news it seems. Yesterday we told you news of Mac Daddy from Kris Kross dying. Today, we have news about metal band Slayer and the death of their guitarist Jeff Hanneman. Bizarrely, he suffered a spider bite that put him in a coma. He was slowly recovering, but died from liver failure (via Stereogum). Slayer have a lengthy description of the spider bite and the days after on their website. A crazy end to an important part of an important metal band.

Goodbye Would Be a More Apt Name for the Spice Girls Musical

The Spice Girls had a musical in London, England called Viva Forever!. Nothing lasts forever, even cold November Rain as the show was shut down after 6 months (via Hollywood Reporter).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the show was not a critical favourite. I thought their Spice World movie was an Oscar nominated flick? The show is rumoured to lose about $8 million when all is said and done. As for all those people that lost hours of their life, there are no refunds.

Skrillex + Diplo = Jack U

Two guys who have done tons of collaborations and remixes are now collaborating together. Skrillex and Diplo – are those even your real names? – have teamed for a new project called Jack U (via MTV). The band will be playing together at a series of Mad Decent Block Parties, alongside A Tribe Called Red, Baauer, Big Gigantic, Clockwork, Danny Brown, Flosstradamus, Jahan Lennon, Keys N Krates, and many more. The party hits Toronto on July 26.

Watch A Music Video That Also Plugs a Brewery

As I slowly catch up on my inbox of music, I came across a tune I liked by Radiation City. The intro of the video notes that it is made in conjunction with Fort George Brewery’s Tender Loving Empire Northwest Pale Ale, which is not the catchiest name I have ever heard. Before you call the band sell outs, check out their throwback sound and cool setting for a music video – it’s under the span of the Astoria–Megler Bridge. Check out Foreign Bodies by the Portland band, and watch out for their sophomore album, Animals In The Median, out on May 21.
