Morning Music Notes – Let Me Tell You How It Will Be
New Orleans’ Voodoo Experience 2013 Lands PJ, NIN and HTDA
Okay, I got a little lazy in the headline, so let me expand my acronyms. It’s the 15th anniversary of the New Orleans festival, Voodoo Experience. They somehow roped in Trent Reznor to work extra hard – probably with two pay cheques – as he will perform with both Nine Inch Nails and How to Destroy Angels (via Consequence of Sound). Also headlining the November 1-3 festival is Pearl Jam.
A few non-headliners have been announced, and they include Bassnectar, Paramore, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Calvin Harris, Desaparecidos, The Gaslight Anthem, Boys Noize, Afrojack, Alkaline Trio, Cults, Big Gigantic, and Robert DeLong. A three day pass will set you back $175, plus camping options.
You Can’t Run from the Tax Man, Lauren Hill
Actually, the headline applies to everyone. As previously reported, Lauren Hill neglected the lovely tax man in the years 2005 through 2007; years in which she earned $1.8 million (about $1.8M more than I did). She pled guilty in June 2012, and with sentencing coming up next week, could face up to three years in the slammer (via Billboard).
Oddly, Lauren Hill said that threats against her and her family made her leave the music industry and then unable to meet her tax dues. Not sure why she didn’t set aside money from her income to pay it back like the rest of us. Being rich sucks, eh Lauren?
Psy Continues to Set YouTube Records
South Korea’s Psy has the most YouTube views for one video for his mega hit, Gangnam Style. Like all one hit wonders, Psy has the impossible task of following up the instantly recognizable hit with some other track that a small fraction of the people will actually care about.
However, so far so good – Psy has set the record for most views on the first day of a video’s release (via Billboard). Day 1 saw 18.9 million views for his new track Gentlemen, and after 3 days, he was up to 70 million views (and is now inching towards 100 million). The curiosity factor from a portion of the 1 billion+ Gangnam Style listeners is definitely playing a large part of this. Maybe I should finally watch this Gangnam Style video after all.
Listen! Gold Panda – Brazil
Something new from UK producer Gold Panda, which just happens to be my favourite kind of panda. Off of upcoming album, Half of Where You Live, we get the track Brazil, which might be the other half of where you live. We get the word Brazil repeated many times over a building and toe-tapping electro beat. Give it a listen below.
