Morning Music Notes – Just Give Me Some Truth
Atoms for Peace Say They Won’t Put Songs on Soundcloud, Then Post Songs to Soundcloud
Atoms for Peace are gearing up for their first album release as a full band – previously, Thom Yorke, Flea, Nigel Godrich et al. have only played together live. Long time Radiohead producer Godrich tweeted “We’ve decided not to put any tunes on soundcloud..” but then promptly included a link to a track on Soundcloud. The track was called Time Was Dropped, which was taken down from Soundcloud.
Next up was a tweet that said “Ooer. That was awful. How about this?” which included a link to a track named ‘Who let em in?’. These two tracks are not on upcoming release Amok – maybe they’re B-sides? Maybe they are coming out with a second album? A boy can dream (and obsess and stalk and get a restraining order and ignore a restraining order and obsess and stalk).
Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew to Release Two Albums This Year
On Monday, Broken Social Scene announced they were playing a reunion show in Toronto as part of the Arts and Crafts Field Trip line up. Now BSS co-founder Kevin Drew has announced that he will be releasing two albums. One will be an album with Andy Kim (of Sugar, Sugar writing fame) while the other will be a solo album (via Pitchfork).
The solo record will be made with Ohad Benchetrit and Charles Spearin of Do Make Say Think and Broken Social Scene, and Dean Stone of Apostle of Hustle. Both albums are expected out in 2013, unless the Mayans have some other apocalypse lined up.
Don’t Call It a Comeback, Seriously – Andre 3000 on the Frank Ocean Track
This Frank Ocean remix is causing quite a stir. Andre 3000 appears on Frank Ocean’s Pink Matter track on his channel ORANGE album. Ocean had wanted both Outkast rappers – Vanilla Ice Andre 3000 and Big Boi – on the track, but Andre rejected it, since he didn’t want an Outkast reunion on someone else’s track. Big Boi appeared on the remix for Pink Matter, causing people to discuss this Outkast reunion track. The two are also slated to appear on T.I.’s remix of Sorry.
Andre 3000 spoke to Spin to clarify them both coming together on the remix, and how Big Boi might be stirring the pot. “It’s important for me to be clear about the origins of my contributions to ‘Pink Matter’ and ‘Sorry.’ I was approached as a solo artist by both Frank Ocean & Tip. I discussed musical direction with each artist and completed my verses. It was after that when Big Boi’s name came up.”
“I never want to mislead our audience – I worried that some would think these were Outkast collaborations. These songs are not Outkast collaborations. I discussed this rationale with Big, Frank and T.I. and everyone agreed. That is why I was surprised to read about these remixes. I understand that anyone can put out an unofficial remix to any song but I have an obligation to be honest with fans about what this is … and what it isn’t.”
I might be reading between the lines here, but is Andre 3000 saying he has a crush on me? Big Boi showed up on both remixes after they discussed not doing this? If so, say goodbye to any possible Outkast reunion in the feature, unless Big Boi remixes an entire Andre 3000 album.
Watch! Bloc Party – Truth
We end your morning with a jittery new video from Bloc Party. The track is Truth, lifted from last year’s album Four. The band jump around and play in colourful flares, which sounds like I have an idea for my next party. The track is a happy and upbeat number. Check it out below.
