Morning Music Notes – When Technology Ruins Surprises
Did the Rolling Stones Ruin Their Coachella Surprise?
The S.S. Coachella cruise festival is underway as we speak, en route to Bahamas. But the 2013 Coachella headliners might be known, due to a gaff in the Rolling Stones app. This is what happens when you mix old people with technology. The band’s official mobile app listed April 12 in Indio, California – home of Coachella – as a tour date, despite Coachella’s line up still being shroud in secrecy (via Rolling Stone). Oops.
The tour dates in the app were quickly deleted, but not before screen captures and then tweets were made. You can’t run from technology, old men!
More People Watched the Seinfeld Finale than the Hurricane Sandy Concert Tribute
Yes, that’s a negative headline, but I’m a negative guy. In reality, a whopping 19.3 million Americans tuned in at some point to the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy Concert Tribute last week (via Billboard). 19.3 million people wondered what the fuck Kanye West was wearing, too. The show was aired on 15 channels, so these figures don’t include people watching on the Internet. No word on how much moola was raised for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Check out Dave Grohl’s Sound City Soundtrack Tracklisting
Last week, we were treated to the nugget that Paul McCartney has joined forces with the remaining members of Nirvana to record a studio version of Cut Me Some Slack, the track that they played last week at the Hurricane Sandy Benefit Concert. Now the full tracklisting of the soundtrack for the documentary about the Los Angeles recording studio is out, and it’s pretty good. Highlights include tracks with Trent Reznor, Josh Homme, members of Rage Against the Machine, and those Foo Fighters kids making an appearance. The documentary premieres at the Sundance Film Festival, while the soundtrack is out on March 12 via Dave Grohl’s Roswell Records.

Listen! Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear – Cut Me Some Slack
The studio version of The Beatles / Nirvana collaboration (well, not quite) – the Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear act – is now available on iTunes, and is up for your listening enjoyment on YouTube. The track is a somewhat heavy and muddy track, which finds Sir Paul singing slightly out of his comfort zone. Check it out below.
