Morning Music Notes – Clocked Over the Limit
PHM favourite CHVRCHES (one of the top albums of 2013, we interviewed them, you know the drill) recently played the Billboard Women in Music 2013 evening. Led by singer Lauren Mayberry, the band played an excellent cover of the Janelle Monáe song Tightrope.
The track isn’t the usual synth-heavy and poppy tracks that CHVRCHES excel at. We see Iain Cook hop on an effect-laden guitar, adding a cool sound to the cover. Be sure to watch it below.

In 2012, it was Michael Kiwanuka. Last year, it was HAIM. This year, the winner of the BBC Sound of poll for 2014 is… Sam Smith! The 21 year old has previously collaborated with Disclosure, as well as releasing a gem of his own. Sounds like he’ll do alright in 2014. (via Guardian)
Grimes has been working on a new album. She has now hinted that the album will be out in September. Okay, it was more than a hint, as she said on Twitter it will be out on September 9, but added the caveat “I think”. Knowing how the business works and how labels are, the qualifier was definitely needed. (via NME)
OutKast aren’t just playing Coachella in 2014. The band have also announced they are playing a night at the Governors Ball in New York June 6-8. They have also stated that no new album is in the works, they just want a paycheque few live shows to play. (via Consequence of Sound)
The man with the unnecessarily giant clock chain, Flavor Flav, was arrested for driving with a suspended license and for speeding. However, police released him so that he could attend his mother’s funeral. It seems like a legitimate reason to be driving. However, couldn’t any of the other attending guests have driven the Public Enemy rapper? (via Billboard)
