Listen! Tim Hecker – Virginal ll

October 15 will see the new release from PHM favourite, Tim Hecker. The ambient instrumentalist will follow up his 2011 PHM Album of the Year contender, Ravedeath, 1972 with Virgins. As per the press release last month, Virgins “employs woodwinds, piano and synthesizers towards an effort at doing what digital music does not do naturally—making music that is out of time, out of tune and out of phase.”

You can definitely hear this in his new track, Virginal II. The new track is a cascade of piano lines, before synths crash into the background, and the sounds swirl out of time into a chaotic yet melodic sound. For fans of Tim Hecker, this will feel both familiar and refreshingly new. Give it a listen below.
