Morning Music Notes – Came Back Awesome

Nine Inch Nails Drop New Song, Name Album, Announce Tour with Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Solve World’s Financial Problems

NIN - Came Back Haunted

Well, go big or go home I guess. Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails have thrown fuckin’ everything at us over the past 12 hours. Let’s review. They have told us they are releasing a new album on September 3 called Hesitation Marks (I think I have a few of those in my underwear). They dropped a great new track called Came Back Haunted. It has a dark yet catchy chorus that NIN do so well.

They’ve also announced a tour with openers being either Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Explosions in the Sky. Mind blown! The band play Montreal (October 3), Toronto (October 4), Vancouver (November 21), Edmonton (November 24), and Calgary (November 25) with Explosions in the Sky opening all of those dates except the two in Alberta. No GY!BE for Canadian NIN fans! Check out all the tour dates here.

Daft Punk Hit Number 1 Again

For the second week in a row, Daft Punk and their “post-disco” album Random Access Memories has hit number 1 on the Billboard charts (via Hollywood Reporter). The album sold 93,000 copies, which is a 73% drop off from week number 1. Alice in Chains had a number 2 debut for their latest effort The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. I think their Funny or Die mockumentary video helped propel their sales.

Stephen Colbert to Put Paul McCartney on the Map

Do you think Paul McCartney knows and likes Stephen Colbert, or his publicist suggested it to him and he thought it would be a good idea? Brace yourself for some awkwardness, Sir Paul, as you’ll be spending an hour on the Colbert Report. On Wednesday, June 12, Macca will be on the Colbert Report for their second ever one-hour music special (via Yahoo).

“I think this McCartney kid’s got something special and I’m gonna put him on the map!” Colbert joked. Based on the number of appearances McCartney continues to make every year, he is on every single map across the globe.
