CMW Critical Conclusions for… Illitry (Canadian Music Week 2013 concert review)
Review 1 of Band 1 on Day 1 of the 2013 Canadian Music Week is here! PeteHatesMusic is covering random bands throughout the week, and giving a gig by gig review as they happen. Below is our Canadian Music Week Critical Conclusions for.. Illitry.
Venue: Rivoli
First Impressions: Shamefully missed the first few songs, but they seemed polished and having a good time. A nice electro rock sound.
Stage Presence: 8.5 / 10 – Lead singer was on another planet, like Thom Yorke at his most spastic. Bassist seemed super confident, like a mega star. He also liked to lip sync to the songs.
Crowd Reaction: 7.5 / 10 – The standard Canadian applause.
Number of times they said their band name: I didn’t hear them say it, but they had a giant lit sign at the front – smart!
Water/alcohol/neither: Clear cup with a liquid substance – I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and say it was pure vodka
The Last Word: 8 /10 – Disappointed I missed the start of their set but glad I caught them. Shimmering guitars not far removed from Interpol at times. Wild vocals on occasion which was both good and band. Worthy of further investigation.
