Morning Music Notes – Super Bowl Hangover Edition
Beyonce Knocks Power Out at Super Bowl, or Something Like That
A couple of surprises at yesterday’s rousing football game between San Francisco and Baltimore. Beyonce played the halftime show at the Super Bowl, as expected. As rumoured, Destiny’s Child had a ‘surprise’ rumour of sorts during Beyonce’s bit, with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joining Beyonce for a mix of Beyonce and Destiny’s Child songs, such as Bootylicious, Independent Women, and Single Ladies. Nice of Beyonce to remind Kelly and Michelle what songs she’s been playing since she left them behind.
Shortly after her show, the power went out at the Super Dome in New Orelans, leading me to believe Kelly or Michelle were seeking some kind of revenge. For a second, I thought Bane was going to emerge and blow up the field like he did in Pittsburgh Gotham City.
You can check out her full halftime show below, and you can check out all of her newly announced tour dates on her website.

Michael Bublé to Host the 2013 Junos
The Juno Awards take place in Regina, Saskatchewan on April 21, 2013, and they now have a host. The Canadian music awards will be hosted by Michael Bublé (via Hollywood Reporter). Bublé made the announcement during the Super Bowl, which aired on CTV (who are also televising the Junos). Bublé was disguised as Michelle Williams in Destiny’s Child and slyly held up a sign during the halftime show, making the announcement. That, or he had a pre-taped segment that aired on CTV.
Frank Ocean Wants Love, Not War
As you most definitely might have read here, Frank Ocean and Chris Brown got into a little parking lot fight. Frank Ocean has decided to take the high road (which is the road Snoop Dogg takes a lot) and will not press charges against Chris Brown (via MTV).
Writing on his Tumblr account, Ocean said “As a child I thought if someone jumped me it would result in me murdering or mutilating a man. But as a man I am not a killer. I’m an artist and a modern person. I’ll choose sanity. No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. Peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace.”
The problem with that is that Chris Brown will continue to hit people – boys or girls – like he is some special person above the law and society’s normal rules. Someone needs to knock that idiot upside the head, preferably with a 2 x 4.
My Bloody Valentine Announce New Album and Break Internet in the Process
It only took them 22 years, but My Bloody Valentine have followed up their 1991 album, Loveless, with a brand new album called mbv (I wonder what that could stand for). The 9 track album was released at midnight on February 2, which caused their new website to buckle under the weight of the Internet traffic. The whole thing is streaming on YouTube, and you can check it out below. It’s a pre-requisite to like shoegaze and noise pop before clicking play below.
