George Harrison’s Widow Olivia Stops Tribute Statue of the Beatle

A campaign to erect a statue in the town where George Harrison died, Hanley-on-Thames, has been stopped due to lack of support from widow Olivia Harrison (via Guardian). 2,000 people, which is about 20% of the population in the town, had signed the petition started by resident James Lambert. Oddly, they all said “James Lambert.”

Speaking to BBC News, Lambert said “[George] really is an icon in Henley. It seems strange that nothing has been created to acknowledge his presence and the work that he did for the town.” Olivia has said that a statue might bring “different types of fans turning up, the unwanted fans.” Unwanted fans – like One Direction fans?

Love Me Do is Now Public Domain in Europe

More Beatles news – is this the fucking 60s?! The classic Beatles tune (aren’t they all classics?!) Love Me Do is now public domain in Europe (via Associated Press / Oregon Live). This is because the song is 50 years old, which seems like a somewhat short about of time in this day and age of time machines. Apparently others feel the same way, as the European Union is voting to extend the copyright from 50 to 70 years. Since Paul McCartney is a robot, he will likely want the vote to push the copyright even longer, so he can be the first robot trillionaire.

Black Sabbath to Release New Album Called 13

Reunion is the name of the game, as is music from old sources. And it doesn’t get much older than Black Sabbath. David Bowie might have announced his first album in 10 years, but Black Sabbath have announced their first one in almost 35 years (via Consequence of Sound). The album will be called 13, which is how many years the band thinks it has been since their last record. 13 will be out in June. The album features production by Rick Rubin, as well as Rage Against the Machine’s Brad Wilk on drums.

Justin Timberlake had that bizarro announcement video the other day, saying he still loves music. He has confirmed this by marrying music announcing he is returning with an album called The 20/20 Experience. Justin Timberlake either has good vision, or thinks he can hit 20 home runs and steal 20 bases.

JT also dropped a new song, in the form of the Timbaland produced, Jay-Z featuring track, Suit and Tie. The horn-filled song is less pop and more R&B sounding. Check it out on his website if the video below gets shutdown (which one link did for some reason).
