Morning Music Notes – Forcing Mick Jagger to Stay Up Until 1am
Mick Jagger to Host and Perform on Saturday Night Live, Which is WAY Past His Bedtime
Don’t old men go to bed at 8:00pm? Whenever I break into retirement homes, everyone is asleep by 9:00pm, which makes stealing things much easier. Well everyone’s favourite old man, Mick Jagger, is back on Saturday Night Live, and he will host and perform on the May 19th season finale (via Rolling Stone). NBC has ordered a record number of oxygen tanks and paramedics for the occasion.
The Rolling Stones hosted and performed back in 1978, when the band were still making decent music. Jagger’s latest album is with that “super” group, SuperHeavy, so who knows if they will show up. Way to stay relevant, SNL!
Michael Jackson and Pepsi Back Together
Michael Jackson’s first collaboration with Pepsi didn’t go so great, as he set his hair on fire when making the commercial, giving him second degree burns which are rumoured to have led him down that road of plastic surgery. Now, Michael Jackson is dead, so unless they set his tombstone on fire, I guess he’s safe – hooray for the safety of death! What I’m trying to say is that Michael Jackson is going to appear on one billion Pepsi cans, which I guess means little boys everywhere will be touching Michael Jackson for a change (via Yahoo).
The cans are “limited edition” but something about the phrase “one billion cans” makes me think otherwise. The cans will go on sale in China first, and then the USA later this month, with cans to appear elsewhere later in 2012. The marketing campaign also coincides with the 25th anniversary of his Bad album. The name of the campaign? “Live for Now” – which is a cruel fucking slogan to pick when using a dead guy to market the product!
Adele Over Takes Michael Jackson’s on UK Album Sales List, Wants to Be on Pepsi Can, Too
Adele’s 21 just won’t stop selling. It is now number 5 all-time on the UK’s best selling album’s list, having just overtaken Michael Jackson’s Thriller (via Gigwise). Up next on the list is the 1995 classic from Oasis, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? Adele – absolutely no pressure for your follow up album.
How Much of the Tablet Market Do You Think the iPad Has?
In a market with Kindles, Nooks, and other products that are somewhat niche, how well is the iPad doing? It gets a lot of the press, and it turns out that the Apple product has an estimated 68% of the tablet and tablet-like market (via Slash Gear). Research done by the IDC Group shows that the 68% share is up from the 54.7% hold from the end of 2011. Samsung is in second place, with its various Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab devices. In third place is the Etch-a-Sketch, with it’s 2 colour graphics, 2 knob controls, and lack of ports and hard drive – it’s amazing it’s still doing so well.
Watch! Dan Mangan – About As Helpful As You Can Be Without Being Any Help At All
Vancouver singer songwriter, Dan Mangan, has the unusual claim to having 3 consecutive rhyming words forming his name. He also likes to go camping in nice suits, as shown in his latest video for About As Helpful As You Can Be Without Being Any Help At All, which is off of last year’s album, Oh Fortune. Based on all the stuff they brought on their trip, they clearly are not portaging. Or maybe the idea is that the people he’s with are actually original island inhabitants (think the Others in LOST) and they are just waiting for singers to come to the island so they can dance. Either way, let’s not over think this, as my theories are turning out to match that of the song title, About As Helpful As You Can Be Without Being Any Help At All. And don’t let my preamble put you off – the song is good, so listen to it!
