Top Facebook Status Updates, Plus Listening Data
Facebook is useful for letting people know what you had for dinner, and what drunken escapades (GREAT word that I need to use more) you got up to. But sometimes people use it for news, or to mock celebrities, or even to share what music they are listening to (courtesy of the handy dandy Spotify add-on). Facebook released a bunch of data to let us, the people, know what people were talking about in 2011 (via Tech Crunch).
1 – Death of Osama bin Laden
2 – Packers win the Super Bowl
3 – Casey Anthony found not guilty
4 – PeteHatesMusic Charlie Sheen
5 – Death of Steve Jobs
Interesting social commentary – Charlie Sheen above the death of Steve Jobs? Even Charlie Sheen period. The only musical discussion in the top 10 was the death of Amy Winehouse (#7).
The data on the top 10 songs was also made available. No Rebecca Black?! I commented on her every day!
1 – We Found Love – Rihanna and Calvin Harris
2 – Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) – Katy Perry
3 – Sexy and I Know It – LMFAO
4 – Titanium – David Guetta and Sia
5 – First of the Year – Skrillex
6 – Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites – Skrillex
7 – Without You – David Guetta and Usher
8 – Stereo Hearts – Gym Class Heroes feat. Adam Levine
9 – Pumped Up Kicks – Foster the People
10 – Someone Like You – Adele
You can see the rise of Skrillex in discussions below. Seems he is a big mover and shaker, despite the fact he wants to Kill Everyone.
In terms of the top 10 musicians, Rebecca Black also didn’t make this list. Neither did many rock bands. Below are the fastest growing pages and most popular media for 2011 for music.
1 – Rihanna
2 – Bob Marley
3 – Avril Lavigne
4 – David Guetta
5 – Enrique Iglesias
6 – Usher
7 – Lady Gaga
8 – Metallica
9 – Green Day
10 – Black Eyed Peas
It’s unclear how much of the list is fastest growing and how much is most popular. No mention of the Beatles, despite Paul McCartney’s world tour this year.
