Morning Music Notes – Concert is Postponed? Sounds Like A Good Reason to Riot
Metallica Fans Riot in India
More details have emerged in the cancelled Metallica concert in India this past Friday. Initially, Metallica cancelled their concert due to ‘technical difficulties’. It was the first time the band would be playing in India, and some of the 25,000 attendees had paid around $200 to attend. However, DNA Entertainment Networks announced that it would not go ahead. “Due to some technical problems we are postponing the Metallica concert to tomorrow,” they said, blaming a collapsed security barrier (via Guardian).
“Dozens of fans allegedly raided the stage, and hundreds more broke down barricades, vandalised the sound system and threw bottles and chairs at the LED video screens. Despite their proposal to postpone the show until Saturday, DNA could not obtain a permit, Metallica said in a statement. “Our first and foremost concern is always for the safety of you.”
On Saturday, Gurgaon district police arrested four members of DNA’s staff, including the promoter’s general manager. They were charged with cheating and breach of trust, and will reportedly spend at least six days in custody. “The show was cancelled with no prior information to the ticket buyers or [to] the district administration – which could have caused [a] law and order problem,” explained a government spokesman. Although ticket refunds are now available at the DNA website, fans initially complained that they were not being offered.”
Metallica did make their Indian debut on Sunday night, playing to 20,000 fans in Bangalore. All’s well that end’s well, right? (answer: not always – ask the lotto winner who previously lost his wife and his left arm)
7 of the Top 10 Twitter Accounts Being Followed Are Musicians
Who follows who on Twitter? Well, it appears musicians are who are being followed, with 7 of the top 10 most followed accounts being musicians (via Digital Music News). Sadly, these tweets consist of nothing more than complaints about shoes and air conditioning.
The top 3 are Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and then Katy Perry. Showing where politics ranks relative to pop culture, US President Barack Obama is number 4, while recently single Kim Kardashian is number 4 (and is not counted as a musician – sorry, honey). 6-9 are Britney Spears, Shakira, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift. Number 10 is resident doofus, Ashton Kutcher.
Out of the 100, 44 are musicians. Now bands – use this tool wisely to innovatively promote your music and help your fans – they are listening (well, reading…maybe).
Gmail App Coming to iPhone
With all the cool apps and services on the iPhone, the obvious one that is missing is Gmail. Sure, you can check your gmail account like a sucker, but why do that when there could be an app for it? Now, there might be (via Slashgear).
“With this first Gmail app for iPhone you should be able to star messages via flags and get these lovely notifications with ease, all of this in what (publisher) Siegler has been told is the most evolved and nicest look at Gmail that’s thus far been released on the mobile platform as a whole. Perhaps this means a new version for Android is incoming as well.”
Puscifer Plays Letterman, Maynard is Still Weird
Maynard James Keenan’s Puscifer is back with their latest album, Conditions of My Parole. My conditions were that I cannot go within 50 yards of Maynard James Keenan – holy irony! As part of the promo tour, Dave Letterman thought he would invite the band to play a diddy – on Halloween. Maynard even dressed up! There’s a video recording for proof, which you can watch below. BONUS: Letterman’s sidekick Paul Shaffer does a keyboard solo!
