Damon Albarn, Flea, and Tony Allen Name New Album
Damon Albarn has quite the CV. Blur. Gorillaz. The Good, The Bad, and the Queen. DRC Music. Now, possibly because he is trying to set some kind of world record, he has formed a new band, with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist, Flea, as well as afrobeat drummer Tony Allen (via Consequence of Sound). The name of the project is Rocketjuice and The Moon. I have heard better names…
“Explained Albarn of the origin: “Someone in Lagos did the sleeve design and that’s the name he gave it, which suits me because trying to find a name for another band is always tricky.”
“The trio will debut material from the album during a performance in Ireland this weekend, where they’ll be joined be 25 other musicians as part of a collective called Honest Jon’s Chop. Other members of the collective include the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, the Sun Ra Arkestra trumpet player Phil Cohran, the Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara, the house producer Theo Parrish, and the South African hip-hop crew M.Anifest.”
Like most Damon Albarn projects, I am looking forward to hearing how this sounds. Hint: it will be pretty good. No word on release date or any useless info apart from the name.
