CMW Critical Conclusions for…Port Juvee (Canadian Music Week 2015 concert review)

Wednesday night’s Canadian Music Week at Lee’s Palace continued with Calgary’s Port Juvee.

Venue: Lee’s Palace

First Impression: Denim shirts and jackets (well, for 2/5 of the band).

Stage Presence: It started with a fist bump with a mixed drink held up to the singer. Then there was lots of movement and jockeying for position on the stage. The band had energy to spare.

Crowd Reaction: Lots of polite, Toronto head bobbing. That means the crowd was mildly pleased….until the band spoke about the NDP winning in Alberta (they’re from Calgary). Lots of cheers at stomping out the 40+ years of PC rule.

Random Observation: The sound mix was fantastic. I hope they tipped the sound guy.

Last Word: 7/10. Reminded me of a poor man’s Strokes. I think that’s a compliment. Tight guitar rock. Hard not to like.
