Morning Music Notes – If Only Real Pirates Would Get Maroon 5

A Study of Worldwide Piracy Yields Interesting Results

Stop the press – piracy is rampant worldwide! An attempt at tracking piracy was done by Musicmetric, and is broken down by country for the first half of 2012 (via Gizmodo). In terms of absolute numbers, the United States has the most downloads. However, Canada and Australia have a strong download per capita ratio, meaning we win, right? Check out the top 10 below, including the artists downloaded the most. Thank GOD Justin Bieber isn’t number 1 in Canada, bringing us more shame. Instead, it’s Nickelback!

United States – 96.7 million downloads – Drake (most torrented artist)
United Kingdom – 43.3 million downloads – Ed Sheeran
Italy – 33.2 million downloads – Laura Pausini
Canada – 24 million downloads – Kanye West
Brazil – 19.7 million downloads – Billy Van
Australia – 19.2 million downloads – Hilltop Hoods
Spain – 10.3 million downloads – Pablo Alboran
India – 9 million downloads – Billy Van
France – 8.4 million downloads – Sexion d’assaut
Philippines – 8.4 million downloads – Maroon 5

Interesting how a Canadian artist is the most downloaded in America, and an American is the most downloaded in Canada. Also hilarious – Philippines LOVES Maroon 5. Anyone else heard of less than half of these artists? How do you even pronounce “Kanye”?!

Oops! Local Fox News Station Makes Up Awesome Features for iPhone 5

Many months ago, there was a spoof iPhone video floating around, that showed off a virtual, laser keyboard, and hologram projections. I swear we posted it, but I can’t seem to find it (or my pants, but that’s a different story). Anyway, it seems that a local Fox News station confused this spoof video for the real specs of the iPhone 5, and ran a video of it with their news story on the line up already forming outside of an Apple story. Check out the stupidity below.

Lauren Hill Lying About Pregnancy Led to Fugees Demise?

When someone writes an autobiography, it’s basically a one-sided argument, often meant to provoke controversy to sell books. With that in mind, former Fugees rapper Wyclef Jean has said that an affair with Lauren Hill led to the break up of the Fugees. But not just that, but because she lied and said she was pregnant with Wyclef’s baby when it was, in fact, Bob Marley’s son Rohan’s kid (via New York Post).

Wyclef was married and having an affair with Lauren Hill, and claims “In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that.” He continues, “She could not longer be my muse. Our love spell was broken.”

Where the hell is Pras these days, anyway?

Listen to 2 new Missy Elliott Songs Featuring – SURPRISE – Timbaland

Missy Elliott has announced her return to the music scene with not one but two new tracks featuring her go-to guy, Timbaland. The tracks are baseball-themed in name – 9th Inning and Triple Threat. If she wanted a baseball theme, she totally should’ve gotten Roseanne to belt out a track.

The tracks are bundled into one long 7+ minute track, kicked off with Triple Threat, with 9th Inning starting around the 3:55 mark (the video shows someone swapping out the vinyl record). A couple of great tracks, showcasing the excellent rapping skills of Missy. The tracks are out on iTunes right meow. Check them out below, including the random “I like Lady Gaga” line.
