Friday Afternoon Funnies: Remember When We Were Scared of the Beastie Boys?

I think we’ve posted a few too many videos of young girls singing like crap – first with last Friday Afternoon Funnies, and then yesterday with Hot Problems – so I am happy to tell you that today’s why hasn’t anyone upgrade the name yet for Friday Afternoon Funnies will NOT feature any singing. And it involves some storytelling.

I was watching TV the other night, and heard the characters dropping words like “bitch”, “asshole”, “whore” and I thought to myself – when did these words become common place on public television? Because I thought this, I then thought – when did I become so fucking old? Probably around the time I sneezed and broke my hip. Bringing this conversation to talk about music, I’m never really put off my any lyrics or themes. I’m not going to protest an Eminem concert or anything, much like how those Westboro Baptist Church folk protested Foo Fighters and other rock concerts.

To me, I personally cannot think of any offensive Foo Fighters lyrics, and none that would make me get off my couch and make a fancy sign. Now, think back over 25 years, to a more innocent time in 1986. You definitely couldn’t say asshole on an 8 o’clock television show, let alone sing about parties and blow jobs. Want proof? Watch these adults talk about the horrors of the Beastie Boys and their lyrics, on the Oprah Winfrey Show no less. Yup, this is real, and it’s your Friday Afternoon Funnies for this week.
