Alright Hear This: Beastie Boys’ Album Sales Up 1235% Over Last Week
No surprises here: Billboard reports that the Beastie Boys’ album sales have increased 1235% from last week’s sales because of the death of MCA. All of the Beasties albums sold a total of 55,000, which is up from the 4,000 the week before. Licensed to Ill, which was the first ever rap album to top the Billboard charts, is number 18 in the Billboard 200 this week, selling 19,000 copies. However, the week’s tally ended on May 6, meaning there was only 2 full days of sales that counted in the charts.
In the digital world, the New York trio sold 151,000 downloads, which is 949% higher than the 14,000 they sold the week before. Perhaps surprisingly, the best single song was Brass Monkey, with 15,000 copies sold. In total, 7 albums made it back to the Billboard 200 – Solid Gold Hits at Number 51, Paul’s Boutique at Number 56, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two at #107, Ill Communication ranking at 109, Check Your Head at numero 124, and Beastie Boys Anthology: The Sounds of Silence at Number 141. Check out Body Movin’ from Hello Nasty, and maybe PHM will give it the boost it needs to get into the Billboard 200.
