Weekend Music – Fresh Touch
Granted, this one might be better to end a night than to start one, this is a very heavy track from Angular Recordings’ Fresh Touch, and was apparently a spin-off from Damon Albarn’s Kinshasa-One-Two project – and is loaded up w/ some seriously cool Ethiopian rhythms, and a big fat bass line.
So – who are Fresh Touch? Oh… nobody really. Just 2 guys named Richard Russell and Rodaidh (not a typo) McDonald.
Who is that? Well, Rodaidh McDonald has a big piece of a Mercury Prize for mixing and engineering The XX’s debut album. Richard Russell owns XL Recordings, which is (partly or wholly) responsible for The XX, The White Stripes, Vampire Weekend, Tyler the Creator, Radiohead, Peaches, M.I.A, Jai Paul, Jack White, The Horrors, Beck, Basement Jaxx, Friendly Fires, and Adele, to name a few. For the love of God – this guy just won 6 Grammys last weekend!
given their track record, you OWE these guys to give this one a chance!
