Morning Music Notes – Good News: You’re in the Hall of Fame. Bad News: You need to go to Cleveland
Hall of Fame Entries: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Guns N’ Roses
The people (well, the IMPORTANT people) have spoken and the nominees for the 2012 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame are the RIGHT SAID FRED! Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys, Guns N’ Roses, Donovan, The Small Faces/Faces, and Laura Nyro (via Rolling Stone). The ceremony is on April 14 in Cleveland, Ohio, where the Hall is the only good thing going in town. The ceremony is open to the public, so if you happen to be in Cleveland, I feel sorry for you drop by.
Guns N’ Roses are the only band that made it in their first year of eligibility, with both the Beasties and RHCP missing out on votes previously. But after plenty of letter bomb threats from Mike D, the voters changed their mind.
“Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis got the news while his band was touring Europe.”I called my dad and cried,” he tells Rolling Stone. “The most emotional part for me was thinking about [late Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist] Hillel Slovak . . . It’s really kind of his induction that I’m the most excited about. He’s a beautiful person that picked up a guitar in the 1970s and didn’t make it out of the 1980s, and he is getting honored for his beauty . . . It really fills my heart with the reality of how much we love doing what we do, and how much Flea and I love each other. We have stuck together through thick and thin and we want to keep on trucking and continuing to do what it is we do.”
I called my Dad after writing this post. I might have cried.
Thom Yorke and Massive Attack Play Occupy London Gig
After being homeless in London, I should’ve thought to grab a tent and join the Occupy London movement. If I did, I would’ve seen Thom Yorke and Massive Attack’s 3D plan a gig (via NME). The lads planned in an abandoned bank (symbolism!!) to show support to the movement, as a thank you gesture to the protesters. The crowd was 100 people, and was planned inside the basement of a building owned by Swiss banking company UBS. Pfft, why would anyone want to see Thom Yorke play in THAT kind of venue? Yes, that is my extreme jealousy talking.
Apparently the show was recorded and will be made available as a downloadable album on a ‘Pay what you want’ basis. It will be available from the Occupation Records label, with the proceeds being used to support the Occupy movement. Perhaps Jay-Z / Rocafella should take a note from Thom Yorke’s playbook.
Trent Reznor to Write for NIN in 2012
Trent Reznor is about to release his collaboration with Atticus Finch for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack. And Trent revealed his plans for next year – lots of yodeling writing songs for Nine Inch Nails (via NME). In 2009, Reznor planned on winding down his commitments to NIN, even going so far as selling off the gear. What man doesn’t need used eyeliner? You can listen to one of the songs from the soundtrack below. It features Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and is a cover of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song.
